As many of you know we had a virus on this server. The culprit had our ftp password and used an automatic script to download hundreds of our files, added his virus (which redirected you to a site in Canada) and re-uploaded them. Three of us worked all weekend on cleaning the hard drive. Finally gave up and restored a week old copy of the backup, so we lost almost 10 days of posts. The virus is gone and everything seems to be working. Sorry for the outage and thank all of you who sent emails.

If any of you don't use a anti-virus program you should try the free version of Avast! here:
http://avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Now if someone would just make a good one for a Linux server...

Thanks for all of your hard work Macon glad to have the forum back.. :D

Should we be worried about our own PC's. I was never redirected to any site it would just come up as server down.

What about our personal info like email addresses etc. ?

Well, that was fun is not over for me.I got a virus on thursday/ friday that I might have to wipe my laptop. It's not able to access email and the virus shifts and creates it's own files. Right now i am on hubby's desktop trying to make sure that his computer stays clean. Funny thing is my antivirus did not stop it. It's up to date and all.
So if i caused this, my deepest apologies Macon. Oh my head hurts
I see a computer wipe and reinstall in my future, maybe two depending if one stays healthy

There could be several programs downloadable from the internet that will get rid of your issue. However, you have to be careful. Do a search for grannyso's recent posts. I think he had a recommendation of a site to remove some virusi.

Macon, thank you for your efforts! I can't imagine what a nightmare that had to have been.

I'm thinking some bugs are still being worked out. It took 5 times for me to be able to access this site, then 4 more attempts to get to the boards, then 3 to log-in without getting all kinds of error messages.

It sure is nice to be able to see the boards again. :D

Thank you again.

If you're using internet explorer, click tools, internet options and delete your history. That will remove the virus from your machine. From what I'vew been able to see it only affected the server but the tag for the virus is stored in the history. Doesn;t do anything but it's there.

Well, thinking back, it was probably friday evening that i got the bug. Since i logged onto my computer on Saturday morning I have been having problems.I keep chasing this thing.
I shut off and deleted all restore points and deleted all internet browsing and did a disc clean up wizard. The laptop has been off the network since saturday morning.
Hubby's computer has had about 12 scans of various AV online trusted software and all is good. Our AV software on his computer (same as mine and just as updated) stopped an attack this afternoon of another virus, so my port is exposed.
I have another router that i bought cause this one is on the downward slide, so will install the new one tonight after the last spyware scan.

The virus i got is...windows\ygkf.nxr- a variant of win 32/delf.ohr trojan. Sound famillar?
All googleing has said this is a bad one.
The headache continues.

Thanks for fixing it. I was getting scared that you would permanently shut it down.

Thanks dun-- that cleared up all the redirects I was getting on google and some other sites- besides the blips I got from Incredimail when I hit some e-mails...

Am I correct that rancherstoday Bull Sessions is down- as it was working this morning- but tonight after a day of working cows and fencing I can only get on the ranchers home site- but not the BS session :???: .....

Won't let me on....I can get on everything but the BullSession- then I get this:

phpBB : Critical Error

Error doing DB query userdata row fetch

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1030 Got error 134 from storage engine

SELECT u.*, s.* FROM phpbb_sessions s, phpbb_users u WHERE s.session_id = '90620755b2d207764f9f2f6f43bfa2d4' AND u.user_id = s.session_user_id

Line : 323
File : sessions.php

Which is GREEK to me as I don't speak computereze

I was more at home when ranchers was in 1969 mode- brought back a lot of good old memories ;-)
