AI doesn't work for me anymore since I have no ambition to sell registered animals. I'm leaving AI to those who are willing to take a gamble on the sire side of the equation. My next bulls are going to be pasture bred by herd bulls from one of two ranches in Fort Pierce, Florida. I'm still trying to decide between Braford or Brangus.Bright Raven":23qowm2m said:True Grit Farms":23qowm2m said:I would sure like to find a AI sire tailored to my environment. Your cows are adapted to your environment and management, YOU'VE done great. FSR, might know a lot about Simmental cow families, but your a better Stewart of the land and cattle. I'm sure you have a inside angle of some type that your trying to make a case for or against, but I enjoy these kind of threads.
You got the quotes mixed up in your post, Vince. I excerpted your last comment.
I thought you were doing some AI? If not, you need to decide on a breed. If it is Angus, your job will be easy. Half the bulls at stud for semen sales are Angus. A SS catalog is half Angus and the other half is a mixture of the other major beef breeds.
My cows are bred and raised to the fescue belt. They do well here especially with the diluted pasture. I have yet to see any sign whatsoever of endophyte toxicity in my cattle.
Thank you for the compliment on stewardship and management. I take good care of my land, forage and facilities but so does FSSR. Kris does know her Simmental genetics and pedigrees.
I am glad you like the thread. I would like to see more participation. The objective is simple - generate discussion. I often see comments that disparage AI breeding. Some of those comments are in the fashion of "old wives' tales". Hopefully, a discussion will bring some information into the sunlight.
I know your suppose to use an instead of A in front of words using capital letters. But I'm not on A English language teacher website and personally I think A sounds better most of the time.
