I was told about a guy who milked Black and red angus For a special type of cheese. Was wondering if anyone Milks beef cows or Knows some one who does. Thanks!

Only when a new calf needs to be tubed with some cholostrum.

Although Honey's auntie used to milk a shorthorn/herf cow for the household needs back in the day.

Take care.

Grandpa used to have a Jersey for milk. He had a herd of Herefords, and naturally the Jersey had white-faced calves. They milked a daughter out of a Hereford bull and the Jersey, and then milked a 1/4 Jersey daughter of that cow and another Hereford bull.

My neighbor, in his late 50's said he used to have herefords for milkers when he was a kid. When I asked how well they produced milk, his answer was "about 2 buckets". What ever a bucket measures! He said his father then purchased Black angus..."first in the county...", and they weren't milkers. (enter, beef?!?)

There used to be a dairy in San Diego county that had a very poor calf health program. Their mortality ran almost 90%. The used a Hereford and Angus bull on all of the heifers. They lost so many calves that they would keep the crossbred cows and put them in the milk string. Some of those cows ended up probably 75& or more beef breeding with the remainder being Holstein.

we are milking 3 herford x holstein cows
one of those had a beef shorthorn heifer calf.
if she looks alright we will milk her to otherwise keep her as a beef since she is 75% beef but i think shorthorn generaly has more milk.

we have about 10 beef shorthorn x holstein heifers that will enter the milking line within a year.
one just freshened today to a Randy heifer calf.

Samurai is a fleckvieh bull from germany.

we use all top bulls from Bavarian Fleckvieh Genetics and cross them to our holsteins.
we started crossbreeding 21 months ago so our oldest are just over a year old.

this is a dual purpose breed and in the southern area of germany over 95% of the dairys there are flecklvieh.
i went to germany to see it for myself.
the are more efficient than the holstein so that is why we are crossing to them.

i encourage you to browse thru this site.
