Question regarding South Central Missouri

we have been looking at farms/ranches in the 4 state region and found numerous large farms/ranches for sale in south central missouri - does anyone know of a reason why so many are for sale???? coincedence, drought, building of a nuclear waste dump?

we aren't serious about moving right now unless the absolutely perfect place shows up - but hey why not look ;-)

a couple of the towns are Cabool, Thayer, Falcon

Falcon is fairly close to us. The land is a little rough, typical ridges and eep hollers. All that's left of the town that is open is the postoffice. The one and only store/gas station/restaurant closed down recently. It's not particularly convenient to any ofthe bigger towns, but it is some pretty country and prices are still fairly reasonable.

seems to be the middle of nowhere on the map - sometimes that sounds like a good thing

we were just wondering if something was wrong in the area more than the usual - like the nuclear dump site idea

our land now is pretty flat - don't know if we want those deep hollers or the side of a mountain - but hey there are those around here too... so there are probably flatter spots there too...
