Elk season was one of those good news / bad news deals this year. The good news was I shot a bull. The bad news was I shot it first thing in the morning on opening day so I didn't get to hunt too much. I really debated on shooting this one because he wasn't very big (a 3 by 3 in an area where they have to be a 3 point or better to be legal) but a bull is a bull. In a state where the success rate for elk hunters is around 10% you don't want to pass up too many. It was a good thing I did shoot it because I spent the next 9 days acting as head guide for my daughter and we never saw another legal bull. In fact we spent a lot of days socked in with clouds where you couldn't see 30 yards.
