Anyone else find the popup ads in the upper corner offensive

Doing a little research, if I logout of this forum and come back in all I get are the yogurt and other "clean" ads.

As soon as I log back in the offensive ads start.

So what that tells me is that the ad system is using profile information from this website to target ads. Probably gender, age and who knows what else. It is not using information from my computer.

I don't care for this at all.

Its not linked to your browsing history. Its reading you posts. When I post about 4 wheelers I see four wheeler adds. When I have made jokes or comments about girls... I get the girl adds.

I think cottagefarm has it right, the ads are linked to your cookies. This will be the second time I used the word boobs and doubt I will see those kind of ads, although I do get the feared old man in the red hat.

When I had four teenage sons living at home I did check the browsing history and compared it to the number of cookies stored. Some other household member maybe causing these ads to come up.

Although I'm won't discount Brute's therory, so again if I type in the word boobs (3 times) boobs, boobs, okay I have said it 5 times lets see. :shock: :lol:

The ads on the top right are Google Adsense ads. Google tracks your Internet usage and serves up ads they think you would be likely to click. No click, no pay. Google does not do porn. I don't understand why anyone is offended by a girl in a halter top.

I've seen them say "Want to Meet Philipeno Girls" , enhanced animated girls rolling around under water falls, ect... Not porn... but pretty racy for young people.

I don't mind but my son is not allowed on here yet... and my daughter definately would not be. Im on a work computer that filters most sites so its not picking up any cookies from porn sites on any thing. No offense, not saying I don't believe you, but that's what Im not getting about it looking at cookies or enet usage. This computer is clean or I would be hearing about it.

So........ To get more ads of "babes in bikini's" I have to google and visit babe's in bikini's sites got it! My wife leaves for work in 15 minutes! 8)

Brute, I still I'm not seeing any of those ads, but I don't think it would be considered porn unless they showed nudity in the pop up. Macon would know without a doubt where the ads are coming from.

There has never been an ad for anything most people would associate with "porn" on CT to the best of my knowledge.

If you have Firefox or Chrome, you can get an extension called Ad Blocker Plus. the only thing that I can see is the Q&A in the middle.

I agree with Chippie. For internet Explorer try http://simple-adblock.com/

I think you will like it and they are both free.
