Anyone else find the popup ads in the upper corner offensive

Help Support CattleToday:

In all seriousness, I don't even look at those adds. When I come on here I go straight to the threads. Only takes a second to jump down to them. I would hate for anyone to leave the boards as most folks have input and ideas about cattle that are of interest to others.

The ads on the top right are Google Adsense ads. Google tracks your Internet usage and serves up ads they think you would be likely to click. No click, no pay. Google does not do porn. I don't understand why anyone is offended by a girl in a halter top.

I didn't know that
I started clicking on them
When you reckon I'm going get paid ? :D

Me either. Couldn't start to tell you what any of the ads promote.

As for finding it offensive; me, personally, no I do not. But I did have a real problem with it in that I did not want my kids or anyone else looking over my shoulder when I was on CT. Here's my story.

Several months ago, maybe a year or more, I started a topic on here on CT asking a similar question. I noticed an ad for lezbo's to get hooked up with other lezbo's. My CT friends told me it was due to my browsing history. I had never been to a site or even googled anything that would have caused that ad to display, if that is indeed how it works. I'm a bit naïve about how this computer stuff works, and was embarrassed I had even asked. I just thought it was an ad everybody was seeing, but apparently not. I almost felt like I had been convicted of being a pervert.
This was happening on my personal laptop computer from which I type right now. I no longer have the problem. I cannot speak to this because I really don't know how it works, but a friend who works on computers for a living helped me out. He found out what was happening. We have a computer at work that has many users. I also used it often, mostly during lunch break, to log on CT. We discovered that the computer had also been used to access some nasty stuff. That employee was discovered and is now working elsewhere.
The way it was explained to me, and I'm not good at relaying this info; is that because I also used that workplace computer to forward emails, web links, and other info to my PC it has a way of "tracing" my steps. So even though they were not my steps, I still received some uninvited ads.
So I have learned to be more careful about using computers that I have limited control over, and make sure I just read and not log in from anywhere except my iPhone and this laptop. It is scary to know you are being profiled by a computer.

I personally find some of the popup ads in the upper RH corner of this site offensive.

Cattlemax ads I can understand. Bouncing cartoon boobs I can't understand and will not tolerate any longer.

I sure wouldn't want to be sitting here with a child nearby.

Please institute some discretion on the ads this site accepts. I will not be back if I see this type of ad again.

Jim
Dam Jim is something as insignificant at that offends you the you need to go to town more often. I've seen worse than that at the little league ball games.

This has been the funniest dang thread I've read in a long time!!

and since we got bouncing boobees, I thought I'd throw in a some dancing bananas for the ladies!!

ps. What ever happened to Lammie?? I went to the thread about the bum wrap and she was on that one... hasn't been here in a year!!

Some anti-virus programs also have a very good free adblocker. The problem with most blockers is that it does block the content, but the ad still attempts to load and the loading attempt has to time out before the rest of the page loads fully. On dialup or on a slow wireless connection, this can seem like an eternity.
My Kapersky antivirus supplied adblocker will not block the Angus ad, but does block the ads on the right side of the page.
I haven't seen one in months.

If you look at the bottom of the main board index, you will see "who" is browsing the board at any given time. Right now, as well as the members, you will see some bots:
Bing [Bot], bird dog, crossbredcalves, Deepsouth, DLD, Google [Bot], Google Adsense [Bot],greybeard

The Bing, Google and Google Adsense bots are gathering information from posts and from YOUR cookies, temp internet files and browsing history. I know of no reputable website nowadys that doesn't have this happen. If anyone is realistically expecting Mr Gravely to be able to monitor and moderate each and every ad, you are really expecting the impossible.

You do NOT (always) have to actually visit a site to get a little unwanted ad data stuck in your temp internet/history folder. For instance, if you visit any reputable news page article, like USA Today or BBC, down at the bottom, below the article you just read, there will usually be related articles links and--"around the web" links. Most of the "around the web" links are ads. All you had to do, was inadvertently pass your cursor over that link and whatever the link is will drop a little "note" in your browsing history or temp internet file folder. Some websites, you don't even have to pass your cursor over the links--the data automatically loads onto your computer and you never know a thing about it.

Google has their claws and teeth into everything on the web nowadays. Some webpage publishers get paid for the adsese ads--some do not.
Websites ARE expensive to maintain tho-- admin and webpage owners have to be able to recoup some of their expenses, and believe me, it could be a lot worse. I've seen some automobile forums that have floating ads all the way down as you scroll along, and some that have ads within each and every post and thread. The ads, to my knowledge, do not pay a whole lot--pennies or even fractions of a penny if I understand things correctly. So please, don't put the blame on Mr. Gravely--this is just part and parcel of the interent today. The ad content, could come from anywhere and you not even be aware of it.
