Them be nice French sure are bad.......O yell without the french we might have eaisly wound up like canada..Whom also has shorter work weeks , and free medical care....My god that must be bad....

Socialism working, France allows immigration.
Apparently so do we. :(

Dairy cattle must be different in Minnneeeeessoooooota, because they are almost always docked here, no matter what size or age, at least the ones that I've owned/seen go through the barns.

Well we do not have shorter work weeks of anyone I know. My dad put in 90 hour work weeks with no vacations and hubby puts in over 120 hour work weeks at times. When he does get days off I put him to work here. As far as health care it really is only free to the dead beats who do not contribute to the country as we pay a crap load in taxes each year (55% in personal earnings) to give those free loaders health care.

I think health care in France is free to anyone even tourists. You can go to a doctor for free and prescriptions are only a couple of bucks. The sames as Italy.

If you want short work weeks move to Holland they work 4 and a half days a week and get a minimum of 6 weeks payed vacation a year after 5 years of being with the same company it is 8 weeks. 100% health insurance for everyone, including dental and optical. If you need IVF the first 3 treatments are payed for each time you try to conceive for a new child. But they pay almost 70% of their income to taxes. I would rater pay less taxes, work harder and keep more of my money.
If you clam refugee status when you move there they will even throw in a furnished home with all the new trimmings and a vehicle too.

HD your right about the fact that nothin is free, and Canadians are REAL people, not to be classed with the French.

Brandonm. Minnesoooda has the same market for dairy cattle as anywhere. Day old bull calves have almost no value. Breedable heifers of any size will out sell any beef calf anytime.
Slaughter cows go by yield, doesn't matter the breed or color here. There are high yielding Holsteins too and they will be market toppers for kill cows, not unusual.

I just watched some dairy heifers got through a sale last week and they were bringing less than the same sized beef heifers.

They would be non breeders or culls.

Not really! The same thing is going on here. I know several people who are trying to figure out how to get rid of their dairy heifers right now. They buy them young, raise them, and now they are stuck with losing money.

Sizmic

google, Weekly data replacement Holstein heifer calves. And price springing Holstein heifers. Month old replacement quality Holstein heifers are priced at $450.
Springers are $1800 to $2400 per head.

per 100 weight for young calves.

There just aren't many dairies left in the south. I talked last week with a guy who works at the Barber's milk plant and he says the milk they bottle comes from as far away as Calfornia. Almost none here is local. There are so few dairies that the guy that sells/breeds dairy heifers is typically the only guy who has any use for them down here. The only thing that brings less than a dairy heifer at the sale (here) are longhorn heifers.

Then it would surely pay to buy a semi load and truck em to a MN Dairy sale. :cowboy:
