Thought you might find some of the statistics in this segment interesting. US cattle producers are on the leading edge of efficiency and quality:

Quite frankly I think it might be a good thing to let some parts of the world go hungry - permanently

Okay, I am going to kick a bee-hive..
I do understand there is a segment of society that probably shouldn't be allowed to remain on the face of the earth, due to their own actions. However, I also understand the lack of food, and it isn't fun. Perhaps you could explain a little more in depth why you think some parts of the earth should go hungry permanantly??

Start with the blue area's

Actually, I keep hearing the opposite problem - there is an obesity epidemic, with rising rates of diabetes, etc.

And a cattle site probably isn't where we want to worry about feeding the world, because someone will point out that you could feed more people by feeding them beans than beef.

cross_7,
I am on the confused side of things, my comment was, so what areas of te world do you think should go hungry, and your reply SEEMS to be - start with the blue areas on the map????
Yes there is an overweight problem in many places, but guess what?, along side the overweight people I know plenty that have had plenty of empty bellies, they are just too ashamed of their poverty to admit their problems, and it wasn't caused by drugs or booze either.
About the cattle, maybe more feed effecient animals might be in order of the day for the animals of the future.
Why feed "tweety bird" cattle with little muscling that eat like a moose, that might give you 50% cutability, maybe, versus feeding an animal that eats the same amount and give you 70% cutablility. ??
My opinion

I'm less concerned about overweight and more concerned with the empty work boots in the blue states voting themselves a living.
If we shutoff the food and tax dollars then maybe this socialist agenda these people are pushing would see the light

I know that the atitude of "the world owes me a living" has increased over the years, and the "exporting" of jobs over seas has contributed to those without jobs in N. America, but living North of the 49th parallel
, I must admit I don't have a full handle on what is happening down there, so I am having some difficulting grasping what it is you are implying..

I have no trouble grasping what he is implying.

In much of the world the problems of starvation and malnutrition have less to do with the environment to grow food than the political oppression and tumult they exist under. Freedom is the answer yet dictatorship, bureaucracy, military action against their own citizens and oppression are the norm. America is the exception, the beacon of hope and example yet even here a growing class of people think that they know what's good for us and will tell us so and an underclass on the government reservation is literally fat and happy at our expense. America is one of the few places on earth where the 'poor' are overweight and have personalized ringtones.....

Obesity is not a function of eating beef, more a function of sitting at work and of eating too much carbohydrates and too little greens.
On good land one can feed more mouths with beans than with beef, not so on land that is pasture for a reason.
Injustice, colonialism and lack of democracy cause people to starve, not droughts or inefficient production. And lots of good lands are used to produce coffee, fiber, the ridiculous ethanol projects, and so on.

And the world is not growing. Not even is the world population growing much, because people tend to start families at a higher age than before and have fewer children. There will be more people in the world mainly because we tend to live longer, thus existing at the same time as our grandchildren.

There would be no bigger world population if there was not any food.

And Angus cattle has nothing to do with any of this.

I have a number of relatives that came out of the south in past generations, and even though they ate a good portion of their food DEEP fried in lard, most were as skinny as a rake. The difference is they worked HARD and didn"t have gallons of cheaply priced- pop / junk food like they do nowdays. Also, MSG can tip one in the direction of obesity, and it is widespread in alot of food.
http://www.msgtruth.org/obesity.htm
It is true that the governments of the world often create famines / food shortages to subdue their populations, and make them obey.
But the poverty I am speaking of is due to illness or injury, or simple lack of jobs /economic depression, which in turn causes a lack of $$ with which to buy staple food items.
The people I am thinking of are not fat , and do not beg the government for a hand out either.
So I don't know how some people can say they "deserve to be permanatly hungry"????
Any comments??

Well the blue areas happen to be where most of the people live. And what exactly do the Red and Blue represent on this map?
