For our Idiot Savant

Help Support CattleToday:

" Deer, like domestic livestock, browse on young tree growth and will eat any parts that they can reach, threatening the survival of young trees. "

Deer are thicker than ticks around here. Last season I planted about 125 assorted fruit and nut tree. I watched closely for signs of deer damages. There wasn't any significant damage from bowsing but when the rut began most of the trees were heavily damaged and some outright killed by bucks raking them with their antlers. I have watched deer around the ornamentals in the yard area and I noticed that they seldom browse heavily from any one plant. A nibble or two here and there and then they move on to the next rosebush, etc.

I am replanting and this time every tree gets its own fence posts and 6 foot high wire cages from day one.

Great site since I am starting to understand the grass is really the key element in cow/calf.

Truly, you are a grass farmer-you use the cattle to harvest it.
