I was born in 1941 and heard stories of the Depression from my father and grand parents. Some even talked of the good times during the Depression. I have a pocket ledger from John Deere no tractors in it only horse drawn equipment. It belonged to my Grandpa Dowdy and He kept the records of donations and spending for the Greenview Texas Telephone Co-operative in it.

You're right there with my deceased oldest brother. I have old family albums most of the pictures are before the depression.

They did it tough. Here in Australia my grandfather was a very successful jockey during the depression and had a huge following. He had a bad fall and smashed both wrists and couldn't go to fight in the war. He refused to ever ride again as a result.

Good post.
Depression era like world wars are something young people need to learn about and older folks need to be reminded.

Yep, no vegans or gay pride marches, just hungry people trying to survive.

The Depression left an impact on my grandpa and also a close friend so much that they were sure it will happen again. They have both passed but their recounts are still very real to me. President Hoover was an unknown in politics and he was given a mess to try to fix. His name was forbidden from being spoke for years afterwards. The separation of social classes was very distinct, working poor and the richest of rich. The money is there, but when one doesn't have it, someone else does.
