The good music is out there, you just won't hear it on the radio. You got to hunt it down for yourself.

Shaz, I listened to Dream Theater and Tool on your recommendation. They are OK but I consider them to be Pink Floyd wanna bes with a large dose of Black Sabbath envy.

That's basically what I was wondering. In country music, for example, if one liked George Jones, then one might have liked Randy Travis in later years; people like him seemed to be carrying on the tradition. As you said, however, the old country is gone and nobody in the modern era is carrying it on.

I don't keep up with rock as much, but i did notice that there seems to be nobody new carrying on a ZZ Top or Bruce Springsteen tradition.

It just seems weird to me; rock was always the young generation's music; each generation had their own rock heroes, but now it's gone and apparently the Justin Bieber's have taken over.

all music these days has gone downhill terribly.. rock and country have essentially merged into what is new country, and it wasn't the better halves that merged.

I've pretty much given up on finding anything new in those genres, and I can't listen to a classic rock station that plays 10 songs by 10 band for the last 50 years :banghead: even if they were great bands.

I turn my musical attention elsewhere now, Electronica mostly.. It's pretty sad when "computerized" music is getting to be more real than rock and country.

I respectfully disagree that there's no one carrying on a ZZ Top or Springsteen tradition. First of all, those guys are still out there touring themselves. (Bruce has a new "album" out as of last week).

Also, anyone saying there is no good rock music (or any good music) coming out now, I dare you to say that after you watch this on full screen with the volume UP:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQXP6TDtW0w

Lyrics:
Hear the sirens,
Hear the circus so profound.
I hear the sirens
More and more in this here town

Let me catch my breath to breathe
And reach across the bed
Just to know we're safe
I am a grateful man

The slightest bit of light
And I can see you clear
Oh, have to take your hand
And feel your breath for fear this someday will be over

I pull you close, so much to lose knowing that nothing lasts forever
I didn't care before you were here.
I danced in laughter with the everafter
But all things change
Let this remain

Hear the sirens
Covering distance in the night.
The sound echoing closer.
Will they come for me next time?

For every choice, mistake I've made, it's not my plan
To send you in the arms of another man
And if you choose to stay I'll wait, I'll understand

Oh, it's a fragile thing
This life we lead
If I think too much I can get overwhelmed by the grace
By which we live our lives with death over our shoulders

Want you to know that should I go
I always loved you, held you high above, true.
I study your face, and the fear goes away.

It's a fragile thing, this life we lead.
If I think too much I can get overwhelmed by the grace
By which we live our lives with death over our shoulder

Want you to know that should I go,
I always loved you, held you high above, true.
I study your face, and the fear goes away,
The fear goes away,
The fear goes away,
The fear goes away.

I was talking about the new stuff

One guy you folks south of the 49th may not know who's been around for decades and is currently on tour is Tom Cochrane.. It's on my Todo list to go see him.. If you like Tom Petty, Springsteen and the likes you'll probably like him... If you listen to country there was a cover of one of his songs.. Some of the more known songs are Mad mad world, Sinking like a sunset, Lunatic Fringe (One of my faves), Can't turn back, and White Hot

Alan jackson is still cooking for all I know. But yes the "NEW" country is no good :2cents: .I have a really nice station so I get to hear all the good old ones. This is the station I stopped listening to because of to many breaks :pop: but they had good music later at night.http://streamdb6web.securenetsystems.net/v5/KCHKAM

Classic Rock is all I tune in to. I still think of Country and Western as two different types of music before they were lumped together. Rock was pop back then.

I can't understand any words to the ghetto stuff. Its not about race. Chuck Berry could sing and be understood. Lionel - and even Michael. I cannot understand or relate to today's stuff.

The wife puts the radio on Pandora and we listen to Skynyrd. Otherwise its on classic rock.

You have to look a little to find something worth listening to. Here's a few I've been listening to lately

https://youtu.be/WQe_-IAnywo

I don't know if anybody listens to Jason Isbell. Used to be part of the drive-by truckers and is now a solo artist. Voice is a little different but he's one of the better songwriters I've found lately.

Love me some Jason Isbell. Going to see him this Thursday for the 4th time. He puts on a great show--one of those performers that just "brings it." Saw Chris Stapleton this summer--another great singer and a great songwriter. Both these guys have very talented wives that sing and/or play with them. Chris's wife Morgane has a he11uva voice [give this a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDwm83_JpDg
and Jason's wide Amanda Shires is an accomplished fiddler who tours and records solo as well.
