Bull Soundness Examination

Help Support CattleToday:

Our vet does the morphology test with the dye etc. Will check seminal vesicles if there's a lower than expected count. Checks feet legs eyes pulls sheath back and does a full visual examination.
Sounds like a good Vet. What does he charge for a BSE ?

Our vet charges on a sliding scale $65 for 1, $60 a piece for 2, $50 each for 3or more. She does morphology chute side.

Ummm, well, I've had Bob the Viagra Guy, Dick, Peter, Rod, MoLester, Johnson, Woody, Willy - just to name a few. The implication is a little salty, but I can still refer to them in polite company;). They have one job; might as well go all out.
Well, I kinda figured that, but I know a Woody in Emporia that sells bulls. Long shot, but thought just maybe Woody came from Woody. I name my bulls after who I bought them from, your method is funnier.

Well my last one was Obama and this one Mr. T.
I said I would never own a hateful Angus again, crow ain't too bad. So when I bought him I registered him in the Mrs. name and called him Obama.
That almost cost me some biscuits. When I purchased this one it also is registered in her name, so technically I still haven't owned another Angus.

Most of the bulls I have had I just refer to them as the same name as their sire. Angus: New Design, Predestined, Bismarck, Frontman, Upward, Power Tool. We ventured out and called our last Hereford bull Curly. The most recent purchased bull which was a Simmental and didn't stay to long due to an injury, I called Hell Cat, because he was aggressive, which would have got him culled soon anyway. Now we have Knot Head, he likes to herd the cows and runs them. Slick, and Tiger.

Jeanne you might know the Woody family I'm talking about, the son used to work for Hudson Pines. Dad bred Trademark and Rendition.
Glen Woodrow is the dad. Clint is the son. Years ago, I was doing some engineering work at GE Plastics in Mt. Vernon Indiana - very close to the Illinois border. I was talking to one of the instruments techs about farming in the area and he told me that their maintenance scheduler had just retired and that his son worked for the Rockefellers in New York. I asked if it was Glen Woodrow and he confirmed it was. I only knew Glen as a Simmental breeder (Glenwood Simmentals) who also hauled some cattle.

You got it. I don't really know Clint so much but am friends with Glen, which is kinda funny because Clint and I are pretty close in age and grew up ten miles apart, different school districts though.

Looks like you need a new vet. Mine checks everything from the rooter to the tooter before he checks the business end. He says if anything is wrong before the semen sample what is the point. He wont certify a BSE unless the bull is 100% passes.
Rooter to rooter. I'm stealing this 👍

Yes, I know Clint. HPF was about 3 hours from me. After Clint left, Ryan Haefner took over and started leasing cows from me to flush. I don't "know" Glen, but I've spoken to him and know lots of people that know him. Really good guy.

Does anyone know how to attach a pdf file. I can't figure that out.
I have a good slide presentation from Dr. Riley TAMU on genetic improvements and cow fertility.
