Brangus Bull First Calves

Help Support CattleToday:

I like Brangus and the cows we had were the best of mamas. The calves grew good and weighed good. But our market did not pay for any signs of ear so the heavier calves brought equal or less money than straight Angus. We sold the set in a drought year at 12 to 14 YO and the buyers loved them and some told me that they were 7 years old. Hard to bet 'em. If I were serious about commercial cattle it would be Brangus cows and Charolais bulls to sell lots of feedlot calves.

Hard to make a bad choice on Brangus females. Can breed them to Char SIMM Limo Hereford Angus or Brangus bulls. Once this guy is done making replacements with our mostly Angus herd I badly want to try a Fleckveih bull on them next.

How much eat will a brangus bull put on a fullblood angus cow? Anyone have pictures? I have considered aiing to a good brangus bull for replacements. I don't know enough about them to try it yet. Most Brahman cows I've saw have very mad udders, that worries me.

Thank you. I had never herd the term angus plus before. Would those girls have enough Brahman to help with the heat stress and fertility?
Anyone have recommendations on a black brangus bull to make females?

This bull sure catches my eyes, but I know nothing about brangus pedigrees.

The slick and looser hide helps them cool off.but i have no clue how much of the Brahman sweat glands is passed on, but I'm sure it would be better then straight angus.plus the added insect tolerance..

They are also called Ultrablack and can be registered if both parents are registered.

I am not a Brangus expert but that bull is not the phenotype I would personally look for. Think more
https://www.wynneranch.com/sale-bulls Which is a ranch based on the bull mine is line bred to.

The bull has a awful navel and is just begging a cow step on it and ruin your bull, I thought that the brangus breed had already solved that issue

Most have already figured it out. I just can't afford the ones that look like him and have his epd's, pedigree and also have the leather issue fixed. But they definitely exist. It is like the old saying about having a job done fast, done right, and done cheap and you have to pick 2 out of 3. Without the navel was told he would be used by a purebred breeder no doubt not commercial guy like me.

Personally I don't like that bulls sire. A lot of people in the breed do though. My buddy up in Missouri has about 6 or 7 fall calves out of that 894C33 bull. He thinks he's the best bull he's used. I'm not sure how many more he has coming this next fall.

This is a first generation ultra black that I have. The ear will vary based on the bull used.

Not trying to make excuses for him what is being said about his navel is true and I accept that criticism. But to be fair the reason this bull was bought is to go in a herd with 2 angus bulls and put more Brahman back in the herd to make replacements in a herd that was Brangus based but over the years has gotten too Angus. So I will take a hit on his steers but his job is to make replacements that will be eventually bred back to Angus so by then those calves won't show nearly the sheath. In pictures he was not ready to fight and go in with Angus bulls so he was at my house with only 15 cows to learn the breeding ropes for his first time. And most of those in pics will go in main herd as replacements as well.

As Alacowman said Brangus puts a generation label on Reg Brangus and this guy is 5th generation which is rare. Meaning no Angus has touched this guys pedigree to be bred up to Brangus in 5 generations on either side.

I think everyone was talking about the final cut son that was linked. I like wr duke 228/f a bunch.
