    Started buying pairs in Va

Sky...they tell me if consignor states that they want them sold as pairs at FLE, then if he isn't in the crowd to ask about changing to a cow-calf split when they come through....then they must sell as pairs. And yes highgrit Denver is going to be a big cattle trader in no time! I am planning...

    Started buying pairs in Va

I have a guy buying 10 or 20 pairs for me out of Va salebarns. I just plan to split them this fall. The first pair he got today was a 7 year old 1350# blk cow with 350# steer calf.....bought them for $1800. I am hoping pairs like this bring me close to $2400 this fall when I split them. I am...

    Pair prices around the country?

There are only a couple of small auctions in my local area, but the few pairs that come through have been crazy-priced.... for what the cattle were. Saw a 1300 pound pair(the calf was newborn), black cow, not much flesh on her, and she looked over 10 to me. Brought $1900. Also saw a couple...

    2 bred heifers 2 times this $

I watched that set go through Sky. They sold for $760 per head. They looked big to me for 662 lb cattle. That buyer is not a dummy. I have set there and watched him buy cattle all afternoon. If they get up to 9 wts until they calve, and he dumps them in a special sale instead of just a weekly...

Inconsistent Bred Cow Auction Prices ?

Here in my part of the country, I can buy cows at a regular weekly sale much cheaper than at a bred cow special sale. The special sales draw in buyers from the Midwest. The cows are aged and pregged and the buyers have the available numbers to fill their pots. The drawback of the regular sales...

    Sold some calves northern Pa

Yes KT, And I hope Denver sees that above post. I just sold some 9 wt steers through a Northern WV feeder cattle pool at $195cwt picked up here. I was happy with that as they were bought as 4 wt red limmi bulls with horns at $125cwt last fall. We are seeing some 3 and 4 wt steers bring $3 at...

    Today's sale

What are the baby calves doing out there, Denver? I have an Amish dairy that has angus-Holstein cross calves for $75 a head.....started right. Really nice black calves if I lose a beef calf! The worthless little jerseys are up to $30 or $40 at auctions here now. Just a year or so ago, they...

    Today's sale

Denver, 6wt bulls could probably be bought for $1.50 right now. Maybe higher if they are not bull headed or don't show much age.

    Today's sale

Our local pool is loading a pot in the morning. 8 wt steers picked up here... $154. Makes the load bring us $77000. I had bought some of these as 6 wt cutting bulls (last fall) for $110.

    1780lb bull

Haven't seen any that high back here. I think we might have had a couple go to $115 a cwt. That cattlemen should be happy!

Denver, how was Ava today? It's been a rough winter here, I am getting withdrawal from not getting to see any auctions. I am hearing feeders took a jump last couple days.

js1234....The check for that group of 500 calves would be just shy of $460000. I think my mom (ceo) would be a little upset if I wrote a check out for an amount anywhere near that! What exactly does 2 season mean?

    Selling Cows tomorrow

I wish you the best on those cows Kenny! It would be great if a young farmer could make up a nice set of start-up cows out of those girls of yours, at a good auction price for you!

How long do you see these prices holding?

I agree with Aaron 100% ! In the few counties around me, cow-calf is becoming a thing of the past. Our local feeder sales have become spring and fall dispersal sales....and the kill buyers are there to grab those cows out of the grasp of young farmers that aren't blessed with working capital...

    Today's sale

I got a chance to go to our last palpated cow sale of the fall run. Cows topped out at $1200 a head... and that would be young black cows, 4 months bred, weighing 1300 or so. Older, small, and lower quality cows could be bought as low as $700 a head. I was able to buy a group of 750 lb, black...

Can a feedlot make any money at these prices?

js1234....You seem to have a wealth of knowledge in the feeder cattle and feedlot issues. I can see where you will be valuable to other commercial guys on this forum. I am just a small cow/calf and backgrounder in PA. If you don't mind me asking, how many do you feed, and do you feed them all...
