Bought a load of steers today for a buyer in KY weighing 770 costing 157.85 per lb. 50,065 lbs. Hard to get much closer to the 50,000 lb load than that.
Curious, what part of KY they going to? Pretty good size check to write.

They will go right on west and not stop in KY. Buyer is in central Ky though.

Wish I had been selling those, $1200 a head.

Sold 2 loads of mid-January delivery feeder steers, $157 at 775, California.
Huh, your about 5$ cheaper than here.
Yeah, a little softer out here. They would probably bring $1-$2 more today though.

Worked our herd a month ago. Had about 60 cows that were put in the slaughter pen. We've just been feeding them hay since then. Hauled them to the sale yesterday. Slaughter cows were up here about a nickel on the top grades. Our cows averaged .85-.96. Bred cows were a just a tad better also. I bought 7 cows that were 4-6 years old and 6-8 months bred, just some solid crossbred cows, not really fancy but good cows. They averaged 1300#. $1715 was what they averaged. Most of them were in the 1600 range. I went a little crazy on a 4 year old tigerstripe cow that was 8 months bred and springing heavy. She cost me 1900 and threw my average off a bit. Lol.

What price was the top steer calf today Denver? I saw some 370 lb blk steers bring $2.06 in Northern Virginia last week.
Do you think cull cows will climb after the New Year holiday?

About 2.25cwr at around 300lbs, but we didn't have any that were very good, there were some between 400 and 450lbs that brought 2.10 to 218cwt.

Yea, I think cull cows will be a little higher, I don't know exactly how much, but I do think there going to climb early in the new year.

Bought 500 angus/angus x steers, 485lbs., Northern Utah, weaned and good, $188.50. Will 2 season. 4th year in a row I've bought these steers.

js1234....The check for that group of 500 calves would be just shy of $460000.
I think my mom (ceo) would be a little upset if I wrote a check out for an amount anywhere near that!
What exactly does 2 season mean?

I'm constantly suprised at the low prices JS is telling us about. 485lb steers for $188.50. That's a strong 10 to 15 cheaper than I would expect.

Instead of buying now and selling in the spring, they'll ship up to summer grass and sell in the fall as 9 weights.

Last week on WVM they might have brought $5-$6 more but lack of moisture in California is definitely affecting the price of light calves here in the West. Based on your market reports though it does seem you have had a more robust market all year back there.

Bought 3 loads of pairs to go east due to drought conditions in California. Good moderate blk/bwf/ char x cows with 250lbs. black and smokey calves, exposed back, a touch thin, $1,700. 5-7 years. Going to wheat in Texas. Also sending 2 loads of red/rwf 5-7 years home raised pairs (angus sired calves at side) we sorted to move off CA home ranch due to drought.
Sold 4 loads of 735lbs. steers, 70% black, about 20% Brangus, growyard cattle, 2/10 delivery, $165.50.

Market was off some today, had around 900 head. A group that weighed 605lbs brought 1.96, 4wts were still as high as 2.35cwt and 5wts didn't go over 2.12cwt that I saw. Did see some average 800lb heifers bring 1.50cwt.

Being isolated way out here on the west coast our prices are always lower. But on Friday they had a group of 4 500 pound black steers bring $2.17. First time they have ever broke the $2 mark at Chehalis.
