Today I bought 26 steers that averaged 296lbs and 1.98, and 15 longhorn cows 3 to 7 years old bred in the 3rd to char, angus and Hereford bulls, they averaged 705$ a head, That's what I bought to bring home. Then for my backgrounders I got 10 good black steers avg 405 for 1.86. 15 steers at 270lbs and 2.11, 10 heifers at 335 and 1.68, and 56 Holsteins at 530lbs for an avg of 1.13.

yep, and these are good one's, Most weeks i can't get any but today they were there, i know where i could make 100$ a head today so i felt pretty good about them, but i think i keep them and get most of my money back every year for a while.
 
Hey Denver, are you buying for other farmers ,or a feedlot? I would have to sell a farm or hit the lottery to buy that many in one week!! I sure hope they stay healthy and do good for you my friend.

The longhorn cows and the first 26 296lb steers were for me, the rest were for 3 others I buy for. I wouldn't think of buying any 5wt Holsteins for me right now.
 
I bought some 200 to 300lb Holsteins yesterday and averaged 1.23. Everything else was off at least 5 dollars from last week.

$30 out on west coast.
 
Today everything was 6 to 10$ higher, 5wts were as high as 1.76. Small calves have still not made a big jump, I bought 22 that averaged 278lbs and 1.97.
 
What barn do you stop at on Monday? Do you turn those little 3 wts out on pasture after they are weaned a little while?
I never had much luck with calves pulled off less than 4 wts. Maybe if I would keep them in a very small pasture with a creep feeder, I would have better luck with them.

Gainsville in Mondays, it's about 30 miles south of Ava and its a good sale with a good owner IMO, market is about the same as Ava or sometimes a little less. I put the small calves in a pen for about a week with up to 6 pounds of feed a day, then I turn them out on grass and feed.
 
Greencastle Pa, Monday sale......LM1 2wt steer calves..up to $140cwt, LM2 2wt steer calves.. up to $120 cwt, LM1 2wt heifers.. up to $133 cwt.
LM1 2wt bull calves.. up to $125 cwt.
In my opinion, the northeast has THE WORST feeder prices in the nation!
I would sure like to change the zipcode(by about 900 mi) on a few potloads of these cattle!

NorthEast Coast Cattle Are Known To Suffer From Copper Deficiency, This Is Always A Consideration When Setting Price.
