Today's sale

Help Support CattleToday:

Here are some prices of various cattle I watched sell at a couple different sales I was at this week, we'll see how they compare with markets from other area's.

630lb steers 1.74cwt

605lb Holsteins 1.31cwt

870lb steers 1.69cwt

720lb steers 1.68cwt

580lb steers 1.87cwt

Tops is about $180 here, and that would be a set of matching 400 lb blk steer calves.
It looks like you all might be about $30 a cwt higher than us right now, Denver.

I think that 30$ difference is about what it normally has been for us. But on 4wts it might only be about 20$cwt ours won't go more than 2.00 or maybe 2.05cwt.

I figure when I sold 45000lbs 3 weeks ago I lost over 4000$ by not waiting until now.

Bought a big string of steers off one ranch, country deal. $1.95 at 480. 85% Blk/BWF, balance red/RMF, 2 rounds of shots. Nov. 5-15 delivery. Nevada. Will 2 season.

I sold a load of bred heifers Friday. I didn't get the big numbers you hear about but did make a profit on them. Being where I am always adds some freight on the cost to the buyer which drives the price to me down some.

Our market was pretty steady today, some nice 420lb steers brought 2.13cwt and some at 610 brought 1.73cwt. Under 350lbs there up to 2.35cwt.

I sold 5 heifers that wouldn't breed and weighed 850lbs for 1.35, and 4 open cows at 1150lbs for 82cwt.

Filled two orders yesterday, 715 lb Precon angus based steers, 1.62 and the neighboring farms set of 60 805 lb angus steers for 1.58, best set of farm calves I've run across.

I got a chance to go to our last palpated cow sale of the fall run. Cows topped out at $1200 a head... and that would be young black cows, 4 months bred, weighing 1300 or so. Older, small, and lower quality cows could be bought as low as $700 a head.
I was able to buy a group of 750 lb, black brockle -face cutting bulls for $106. They are weaned, small headed and young looking, I'm gonna cut them tomorrow. These should be money makers, they have really got some frame to them...maybe a 3-way cross.

High heifer today was 1.65, high steer was 2.52. Bred cows 79-100, open cows 50-79, pairs as high as 1400.
Don't know yet what today's group we bring in brought.

Looked like Glasgow Ky tonight was bringing better for us as well. 480 steers were 1.93 up to 700# brought 1.53. Saw some 560-570 bring 1.88. That's dang good for around here! Wish I had about 500 of them right now!

Steers sold here good today also but the heifers were so so. I bought 13 heifers averaging 469 costing 1.30. Too much spread here between the heifers and steers.

The high spots around here are 400 to 450lb steers 2.18 to 2.30cwt and 800 to 950lb steers 1.59 to 1.68cwt. 1400$ or so for a yearling is pretty good IMO.

Are you hauling all the way to Glasgow? You getting up in my area. You get your scales working?

Yesterday the order buyers started off looking for the 450-500 weights and then switched over to the 300-350's. The spread between heifers and steers is really high here too. I ended up with a single 7 cwt heifer for .91 to finish out for my sister

Tom,
Yeah man. They had to send me a new weigh indicator, and I had mounted a 4X4 on top of my weigh bars to keep it from shifting from side to side, but that was throwing the weights off. So I secured it down a bit more, removed the 4X4, and got my new indicator calibrated. All's good now. 7 month old steers weighed between 640-720 yesterday. Prob take them the beginning of next month.
We always sell at Glasgow, KY if we have big enough loads to make it worth it. Ours always brings a bit more there as well. If we have only a few odd balls we take to Albany, Ky. Farms are 20-30 minutes from there. Takes me an hour and 15 min to get to Glascow.

Glad you got your scales going.

I have sold at Glasgow, about a hour for me. Guthrie has been a better market that Glasgow lately that is where we usually sell. Sell some oddballs in Bowling Green.

4wt steers were up to 2.15cwt and 5wts were as high as about 1.92cwt.

Saturday there was a special cow sale, since it was the first day of deer season I didn't go. But today I heard all about it, top selling pairs brought 2725$ and no e of the calves weighed over 350lbs at the very most, several bred cows brought over 2000$, even some 3rd stage corriente cows brought 1075$. Things are pretty good right now if you have some to sell.

Those are some great prices there, Denver! I checked to see what the replacements brought in Winchester,Va Monday...
The best bred cow(out of 42 head) brought $1375
The top pair(out of 24 pairs) 3yr old black 3fer,cow weighed 1400#, calf weighed 300#....$1475.
Your markets seem to consistently be much better than ours!
