Why not get the Saiga in 7.62x39 ? It would be a better caliber for a ranch rifle. If you want a .223 get an AR.

    Wood Feed Trough

I use the plastic drums as well, but I just cut them in half length wise and don't fasten them together. It keeps the cows more spread out, and they are easy to move. Plus it's easier to dump the rain water out of them.

    Why I carry a gun....

If there were no guns people would find other means of killing, and there would be no way to defend ones self. I would say that in Afghanistan and Iraq more people have been killed or maimed by bombs and IED'S than guns

    Case 585 - transmission

I have a IH 684, it has the same transmission. The clutch started slipping the same way you described yours. When you have the clutch replaced be sure and get a heavy duty one. They make a standard duty and a heavy duty replacements. From experience the standard one don't last.

    single or dually ?

I would say you are way more over loaded with your 1 ton then I am with my 3/4 ton. Those must be very small rolls, In order to get 14 on a 32 foot they have to be compressed to less than 2.3 feet diameter. The ones that I am hauling are tight full 5 foot rolls.
