We call HD's foxtail rabbits foot grass. The seed head is soft and fluffy and breaks into pretty small particles when it's dry. They can still get in an eye and be irritating, but definitely not as bad.

This is Meadow Foxtail. It grows here too, but it's the stuff that the cattle won't eat because of the nasty bitter taste, and I find clumps of it in perfect, non-bitten-off condition around the pasture.
