Im hoping to purchase some females from this sale as the start of my shorthorn stud.
I have picked out 2 cows which I like the look of and both have been shown with success.
Would like opinions bad and good.

as long as you breed them to something solid color and more muscle should be great

Why do you say breed them to a solid colour??????
Yeah looking around at sires

Because he's in America. I say if you can get away with raising Shorties with some color on them, go for it!

I'm liking Lot 18. She looks a bit longer in body and has more depth than Lot 36.

18 is better- much more femininity. I know nothing of Polldale but I can tell you there are some exceptional shorthorn breeders in Australia- prolly the largest ones in the world too. Here's some to check out-

Belmore Shorthorns- www.belmoreshorthorns.com Their bull, The Grove Kookaburra, is one of my favorites in the breed.

Dunbeacon Shorthorns- www.dunbeacon.com.au They bred the famous "Dunbeacon Venture" A widely used bull that is known for his excellent daughters.

Sprys Shorthorns- www.sypryshorthorns.com.au

Yamburgan Shorthorns- http://www.manchee.com.au/yy-sires.html

I have had a look at all of them i've always liked the bulls produced by spry's thinking AI'ing to some of their bulls. I think that this polldale female sale is a good chance to secure some good cows/heifers.

good luck at the sale and be sure to let us know how you go.
Be sure to become a member of shorthorn youth and take advantage of the 10% discount they're offering.

After thinking really hard I have decided to leave it. :( I only have like a year and a half of school left and then im off to college meaning that nothing will happen to the cattle for the years that im away.
It was really hard to decide this as i wanted them and it was a good opportunity.

Thanks for all your help

I prefer the offspring of the first cow. They are full hearted and have some depth of body. Don't like the tighter, shallower heart of the lot 18 cow, and definitely don't like her bull calf; he shows the same traits. i would like to see her deeper made for how tall she appears.

But pictures can lie, you'll have to see them in person.

I like Lot 18 better as well, I don't think anyone who likes SH's would object to having her in their herd... I certainly wouldn't

Polldale sale results-75 of the 96 lots offered sold, averaging A$2,658. Top price was $7,500 for a PTIC cow with 8 month old bull calf at foot. She was not one of those mentioned earlier in this thread.
