Was talking to my vet about trying to AI my heifers but didn't want to spend any time heat detecting. He claimed I could maybe get 60 to 70% bred with this implant that he can put in them for like 7 days and after that I could remove this implant and 24 hours later he would come out and breed them all. Wondering if anyone had any experience AI ing this way. Thanks

The implant is probably a CIDR. Do a search on here, been discussed a bunch of times

It's a little more involved than your vet is indicating.

Dun is correct, there is lots of information on this website on Estrus Synchronization.

Also, if you go to the Bovine Elite website (http://www.bovine-elite.com) and click on the "Estrus Synchronization Protocols" link on the left, you will get some good information on timed AI.

60-70% success strickly using CIDRs is a bit optimistic!

Best of luck to you.

I have never had much luck useing fixed time AI. It seems to me from trying it that the larger the number of cows you breed fixed time the higher the precent you will stick. I still think you will be lucky to hit 50%.
