I have always hated both of those sayings. The first because it demonstrates the lack of patience and the lack of belief that the child is worthy of an explanation as to why his/her behaviour/request is unacceptable; and the second because it demonstrates a failure on the part of the parent to set forth an example of what they desire the child to achieve.
