Hands down the heifers are the best investment.
Your total cost would be more than 1500 hd to go buy open heifers get them bred and then calve them next year vs 1575 now
and you're 1 year and 1 calf ahead of the game.

My thinking too. :cowboy: I bought some open registered heifers last fall, but it will not pay off for a looong time.

Last week my cull and $550 would buy a fancy bred heifer.

Plan to sort my open heifer pen this week. :?: I think Bud would approve.

Best investment? More like it's a hit and miss thing. Culling heifers are higher than culling cows and you'll have less heifers to sell.
How does buying bred heifers decrease your number of heifers to sell?
Is the cull rate on bred heifers really higher than the cull rate on buying someone else's bred cull cows?

Heifers are unproven and unreliable till their first calf is born and their mothering instincts are unknown. I culled more first timers than older cows. If you didn't have good facilities for first timers, you're screwed.
