Cows

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I remember when I was 12 my Grandpa stored some cows for a neighbor lady who was having her fence repaired. Was stuck me about these cows that they had hair like a buffalo or bison but they were not them. Grandpa told me but I have forgotten. Grandpa & Grandma are dead & I have found no one that knows the type of cows these were. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I have been bugged with this dilemna for 10 years. Thank You!
