During my physical last summer, the nurse had some papers from my insurance company to fill out. One of the questions was asking if I was depressed and did I ever have thoughts of harming myself. I wondered what that was all about, as I had never been asked before. Thank goodness I said no. You have to watch every thing now and think before you answer. Who would have ever thought about gun control. The government is trying to control every part of our lives now. It is sad.
Keep in mind that health care providers may actually be, ya know, trying to keep someone from hurting themselves. We are dealing with a situation right now where my college son has a roommate who has mentally deteriorated and become very unstable. One of the other young men in the house had the foresight to go and take away his gun, and I am glad he did. I wish the young man's health care providers would take his state of mind more seriously, in this instance. (He has threatened suicide and we have told our son to make a hotline call if he does it again).
Please do also remember that the argument
against gun control, even in light of the many mass shootings we have had, is that it's mental health issues (not guns
per se) that cause much of the gun violence, and so in lieu of gun control for all, we ought to pay more attention to those that are mentally troubled or delusional. Are you now saying that we shouldn't do that either? Do you really think it's a good idea for mentally unstable citizens to have unfettered access to guns? I am a gun-owner, as is my family, but sure wish someone had recognized Adam Lanza's mental issues before he killed a bunch of little kids in cold blood.
