Is this the same federal government that is supposed to be doing some fancy job of monitoring the terrorists... I mean refugees its inviting in by the millions?

Seems it has its hands pretty full trying to prevent investigations into the 41 plots of terror that local institutions have busted. Probably need a whole new three lettered department with a name that makes you feel real safe.

There are piles of forms you have to sign to get a tooth pulled, because health records are private and should be private. But some of you want the federal government and many many people to have open access to some of your most sensitive information. No way!

A GP is not a psychiatrist or mental health specialist in any form. They can't make a serious call by asking a couple ridiculously simple questions.

.gov cannot save you from the idiot loon. You need to be ready to protect yourself.
And more importantly, if the media treated every shooting like they do the ones in Chicago, there would be almost zero copy cat killers. And these loons wouldn't be trying to make names for themselves.

You want to talk about gun violence? How many shooting's occurred in Chicago in 2015? Currently the total is figured to be 2995. There were over 500 homicides. How many of those almost 3 THOUSAND shootings did you hear about for weeks and weeks?. Do you think Detroit is any better?

If you want to know about likelyhood to kill, I've got some better questions to ask.
Do you live in a city with strict gun control laws?
Did the majority of the citizens in your city or county vote for the President?
Do you have an Obama phone?
Do you qualify for assistance?
If a ho talks back while you are wit yo boyz, is it gud form to b#tch slap her?
How much is quarter oz?

I do not know what is going on in Chicago, but in Longview Texas there is a shooting nearly ever night.

Jo's educational post in the sports section jogged my memory of something.

Question- who do you think kills more people annually, a few loons that go over the edge and steal a gun or two from a family member, or hundreds of hardened cartel members handed guns of their choice?

Do you remember all the crying that Obama did for the border agent that was shot with smuggled gun via the courtesy of the ATF? Yeah, I don't either.

If you think back, most of the killers have been identified as having mental problems. It doesn't take an educator long to identify them. Most if the time the parents will not accept it. If they did, why would they keep guns in their home where these people could easily get them?
As for doctors, if you tell them you are depressed they immediately want to prescribe antidepressants. We have lost two fine men in our community this year because of antidepressants prescribed for them. They both went to the same doctor. I have been told that it had happened to some of his other patients. These two men both took their lives and left us all in shock. Nobody suspected anything was wrong.
I do not have a good answer for this.Like I said these problems have been identified, but what are doctors doing to help them when they know there are serious mental issues? Prescribe something and turn them out on society, where they can easily get a gun.

I'm sorry for the loss of those young men. And I too am somewhat skeptical of antidepressants. But I also realize that those who are seriously depressed are at higher risk of suicide, so I think it would be hard if not impossible to prove that antidepressants caused them to kill themselves, in all fairness. (My understanding is that in certain populations, such as teens, they need to be watched very closely after starting them). I know people for whom the meds have done nothing, and other people who swear they are lifesavers.

When the heart crap started I shed weight like crazy, lost 50 lbs in a matter of a couple of months. Problem was I was alwasy considered pretty skinny. (I helluva diet if you want to lose weight). Doc put me on antidepresents because of their side affect of making you eat (kind of pills taking the place of MJ). Must have worked cause I've gained back almost 10 pounds and my weight has stabilized at around 124 pounds. Haven;t noticed any difference in my attitude/mood but my wife claims I talk to her more. She would notice that cause she's a chatter box, her dad used to call her babbling brook

Dun with MJ though, you could take a trip and never leave the farm.
The way it is in MO, another trip would probably be arranged to jail

Glad you are feeling better, Dun. Your advice to me as a newbie has always been appreciated.

They've been asking these questions at VA appointments for a while now. Talking with the nurses, the common answer to something like, "Do you ever feel like harming yourself or others?" is, "No, but it's early yet." It must be a common answer because the last two nurses have finished the punch line with me.

My thinking on mental health has evolved over the years. I now see it as "of a piece" with "physical" health; in fact, the more we learn about the workings of the body, the more we see that they are inseparable. From that viewpoint, not only do I not find it odd for a health care provider to ask about your "mental" health at the same time they ask about your (so-called) "physical" health, it seems like something they should have been doing all along.

What I hear a few (?) people here seeming to be advocating is that if you are depressed (maybe even suicidal), you should lie to your dr. so that "they" don't come for your guns. Hmmm, that just a bit...paranoid, which probably has a diagnosis in and of itself! :lol2:

Used to work at a plant in south Louisiana and we had to take a psychological exam ever 5 years. Written and oral. One of my good friends answered honestly about beer drinking. When the doc followed up on the oral he told him on a good hot weekend of seafood cooking he could easily drink a case of beer. He had to self enroll himself for AA. $2500 out of pocket not counting time to go to twice weekly meetings. Everyone else quit drinking after that. :)

A few years back when I was single I had a physical. Filling out the questionnaire one of the questions was "are you sexually active". I answered no. The next question was "is there anything about your sexual activity you like to discuss with the doctor". My answer was, Does the doc have any phone numbers of hot nurses he would like to share. They laughed at me........ but I was seriously asking.......

Be glad they didn't provide you with any ph numbers Dave--You do know, that about 1/3 of the nurses today are male............

Did they quit drinking, or "quit drinking"? ;-)

A family member is in health care and has learned to ask patients how much they drink (not "do you drink"). Many guys will say "Oh, I don't drink." "Never?" "Well, just a few beers every night out in the garage." Alcohol consumed in the garage doesn't count, dontcha know...

I love the types that hold back info from their MD's and then get pi$$ed when they're ailment never goes away. They always want to blame the MD. Holding back information while at the MD's is idiotic. The way that I've interpreted it is that anyone who has some serious mental health issues (ie schizophrenia, major depression-different than "I'm have a bad day") should not be able to buy a gun. Other than the Muslim shooters, those that have perpetrated a serious mass shooting had to have some sort of MASSIVE mental health issues. The Colorado movie theatre shooter had sent a notebook detailing his plans, and it got stuck in the mailroom. Had he not had the ability to buy weapons and body armor would those people be alive today? Well, that's a pretty deep question that cannot obviously be answered.

Because you have a bad year and tell your MD that you're down doesn't mean that they'll take away their guns. The sky isn't falling, chicken little. It's still up there.

What the heck does body armor have to do with mental health issues? Half azz liberals look at things way different than heck bent conservatives.

It shows intent. That this individual was seriously impaired. People without MH issues don't buy armor b/c they don't go shooting up movie theatres.

I can't grasp the concept of body armor and mental health. People without mental health issues don't shoot up a movie theater, with or without body armor.
