sorry rebeef, I have seen too many good herds ruined to support the supergene system.

If you can show me a herd that has been STRENGTHENED by incorporating peter chilcotts methods, then I will consider becoming a PC fan

Mr Supergene and his followers have destroyed herds that he has influinced in NZ !! And thats all there is to it. He promotes his bad points as good points and damages "once good breeders" reputations. If a beef person drives past a herd of Supergene cattle they automatically think, "WTF's going on there !! " That is no good for any breed or breeder. The females can't even give birth to a wee 35kg calf by themselves, so what good is that for a start?

Real BEEF farmers shake their heads when "Supergene" is mentioned.

As for breedplan EBV's, That lot don't even publish them when promoting their animals to the public. :???:

Hahaha...Supergene eh. This guy came to Agribition when dad was till at the Bull Test Station and wanted to come out and see it. They had some steers on trial then and he came out and gave his opinions and dad said it sounded like a joke. For some reason he gave dad a free share in the company so I wonder if its actually worth something now. I should look into it. He said he really knew meat, but he sure as hell didnt know good cattle!

Easy to run someone down over the internet yes...but from what dad said, he was run down in person alot too. Took alot of money from Canadian Ranchers then ran back to Australia with his new wife!

thanks that was a big ole shorthorn steer. Huge butt on him (like a limo) and great big top (EMA) so I imagine he would have been in the cull group of a supergene herd!! Cant remember what colour tags the culls get ... yellow? blue? I remember purple is the supernucleus ones.

For our American friends who are probably wondering about the lack of marbling in that steak ... our domestic market doesnt want marbling (crazy I know) and this was very much a domestic orientated carcase competition, so we wanted those steers to finish out with a really great yield - plenty of muscle, just optimum fat not too much, and not an excessive amount of marbling.

I could give you the ABN NUMBERS so you can verify the Business I worked with and owned in relation to cattle research ,selling Packaging and delivery and so others can see I know what I am talking about But I wouldn't wast my time or you can go back 16 years and look them up your self I don't really care and it wasn't with Peter He wasn't my boss as I said I don' want to wast my time hear others can make up there own mind on what is going on. Track Peter down I haven't any time now I leave in 4 Days and three weeks I will be in NSW

Keren, Group 1 are definately purple. Pretty sure blue was group 2. Think Group 4's were white. Ill have to dig out my old notes and get back to you on that one. Nothing wrong with Shorthorns either. Usually buy some in ourselves to finish over winter
