    rate to lease hay meadow

Land here is selling for $5000-8000 per acre so I have a fortune tied up there as well as the property taxes. Also it is fenced so I have to maintain them as around here without a fence some nut in a 4x4 will run through your meadows and put ruts in it. :( Here 4x5's are selling for $55-60 roll...

Should be good for years if its not sitting on a dirt floor

    rate to lease hay meadow

Thanks. I hate to quit doing my own hay but after 25 years its time to slow down and have some fun. Haymaking is nearly as bad as the dairy business (my grandpa and dad did that for 25 years) as when its time to cut hay you have to drop everything else and of course the cows got milked at 4AM...

    rate to lease hay meadow

Thanks for the responses. Keep 'em coming. How would a 75-25 split be and the renter pays for all inputs?

    rate to lease hay meadow

I am out of the hay business and would like to lease out one of my fields. It's 18A of coastal bermuda grass. I would like some kind of agreement where the lessee pays for the herbicide, fertilizer and lime. All that I will be responsible for is maintaining the fence around it. Around here...

    Blackleg in my pasture

One dose is better than none. Blackleg appears sporadically around here. I think the drought made it come back this time.

    Hay Season 2013

Bad year in north Texas. Had a cold, late spring and no May rains. Finally got rain in June for a early July cutting. Basically no rain for July and August. Finally got 2.2" the last two weeks but it's too late for another cutting. I think this is the first time in 35 years that I can remember...

    Bidding on fence

I can't comment on the price per foot but all of my fences have the tee posts 10' apart not 15' and I use 6 wires not 5. This helps keep the baby calves in. The cost for the extra wire is nil compared to having one of your calves get out Oh also don't buy the Mexican tee posts from Tractor...

    Dallis grass

I just mow off the seedheads when they appear. I do make hay that has dallis grass in it but there are enough of other grasses to dilute the seed i guess as I have never had a problem from feeding the hay.

    weed wiper?

I have a Spiedel weed wiper. I use it on Johnson grass in my coastal meadows. Has several problems. One if the johnsongrass is thick the canvas won't recharge quick enough to get enough Roundup on the grass. Second all of the dallisgrass seeds stick to the canvas and clog it up, so you have to...

    Grazon P+D versus Grazon Next

Here in Texas I have never stunted my coastal with Grazon P+D. As far as the new formulation goes, the poster above is correct. The patent has expired on P+D so they had to come out with a new formulation so that you will buy their product and not a generic.

Any places that rent tree shears in Texas

We have had a Shoule tree shear for about 5 years. Will cut a 16" tree. Head rotates for vertical or horiz cuts. Cost us $6500. Works good especially for trimming trees but is very slow. We have cleaned out several fence rows that were solid cedar trees. If we had to be paying labor to run the...

    Mowing Hay

I usually cut after the dew is gone, but if it's a really humid day that's going to take until after 12 noon to dry, I will go ahead and cut as I ted it afterwards anyway. If I wait until noon to start then I have lost half a day of drying time. I admit dcarp that for the past three years rain...

    Hay Season 2013

Still too cold here in north Texas. These mornings in the 30's and 40's have the coastal barely doing anything at all. Add only 3" of rain in April to that and am lucky to even have any winter grasses for the cows to graze. Had to feed hay until April 1 and usually quit feeding by March 1. If...

    Crossbow alternative?????

In my experience neither Remedy and or a Remedy/Grazon P+D mixture works as well as Surmount. DowAgro makes both products. Maybe call or email them and ask which they recommend or ask your local county agent.

    Crossbow alternative?????

I believe that that product will not kill locust. It will only suppress it's growth. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

    Crossbow alternative?????

You are welcome. Them coming back is the problem with mowing or just using a chemical that makes the leaves fall off but doesn't kill the roots. I have tried Remedy, Grazon and about everything else under the sun and nothing works as good as Surmount. Good Luck

    Crossbow alternative?????

I use Surmount. According to university studies it is the most effective with about a 97% kill ratio on locust. I use 1 oz of Surmount per 1 gallon of water in a spot sprayer. I don't remember what I paid for the 2.5 gallon jug as I bought it several years ago but it works a lot better than...
