This is a greenhorn question, so please forgive, but I was browsing and found a site that stated that cattle prices in January 2016 was $166, which was the highest January cattle price on record. Is that the price of grown cattle, and is that the price usually listed for that type of chart?

Live cattle prices were $166 in January of 2015. They were $132 in January 2016. This is $166 per hundredweight for finished cattle ready to be slaughtered. So in January 2015 a 1200 pound steer ready to be slaughtered was worth approximately $1992.00

They have come down some since then.

Yes they have. The $34 drop between January 2015-January 2016 was the largest drop on record at the time. Unfortunately, we may top that record soon. :bang:
