She was about 2" long (from hind legs to front), and scared the sh** out of me when she dropped onto my arm. ;-)

I could go look in a bug ID book or a Ben Gadd book....but I'm too lazy. :p

So what is she? I've never seen a spider like her before...btw, she was living in on a dead birch (in between the peeling bark and the "inside" of the tree).

Thanks in advance.

It won't look as big when it gives birth - to about a hundred live babies.

I don't know what the heck it is but be careful. I had a spider bite and it ate a hole in me! Ended up having to have surgery. Never really found out what exactly the species was but they figured it was a "hobo spider".... I had no idea there were so many different kinds and so many that really can do damage! So be careful!

I have those around my house. I try to day away from them as they scare the heck outa me. My banana spider on the back porch, whom I named Charlotte, died. :( I found her Saturday where she'd crawled off her web.

Or might be this one

Marbled spiders are family Araneidae, Orb or orb weaver because their webs are spiral wheeled-shaped webs. Spiders that spin a web that looks messy are known as cobwebs spiders.

Brown Reclouse spider/Hobo spiders have six eyes (most have 8 ) arranged in pairs called dyads, and their bite can cause tissue death. I don't ever get that close to count eyes. I like to watch from a safe distance. ;-)

Like CKC1586 said, "be careful."

Thanks for the sites (and to everyone else), but from what I can see, it don't look like it's either an Orb Weaver OR a Marble Spider :(

The second she was on my arm (it was at least a second before I realized she had landed there), I found myself frantically flapping my arm to get her off! She didn't bite (thankfully), I think she was more surprised and shocked to find herself torn out of her home to land on a human's arm, and then suddenly be violently be shaken off to land on ground... I put her back onto the tree somewhere's close from where she came from, and let her be.

Like I said, I never seen a spider like her before, I've seen Crab spiders, Wolf spiders, and the occaisonal Jumping spider...but nuthin' like that.

I'm gonna see what I can find, if no one's gotten anything yet...
