I suggest you folks in the SE and East go fill your vehicles up NOW--or see how fast you can build some refineries.. :hide:

Colonial Pipeline Co., which carries refined products to New York Harbor from the U.S. refining center in Houston, shut the lines for the second time in two months. The explosion, which injured eight or nine people, occurred while contractors were working in an area that's home to a "complex series of pipelines," Shelby County Sheriff's Office Major Ken Burchfield said by phone. Major fuel suppliers began notifying wholesalers in South Carolina late Monday of allocations.

Colonial -- and to a lesser extent the smaller Plantation Pipe Line Co. -- play a key role in supplying the U.S. Southeast because there aren't any refineries between Alabama and Pennsylvania that produce substantial quantities of transportation fuels. The region is supplied primarily by pipeline flows from refineries along the U.S. Gulf Coast, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
While Colonial has a capacity of 2.6 million barrels a day of refined products, the Plantation pipeline carries just 700,000 barrels a day.

This is the same pipe that ruptured about two months ago. Only a mile or so from where that happened. Last time the media downplayed the shortage to try and keep the panic low I guess. I believed it until I got ready to head to Texas and couldn't find any gas in town

This is going to throttle a lot of gulf coast refineries back. Colonial goes all the way to Henry Hub New York.
Plantation starts in La. Goliath to the Midwest markets up to Chicago.
It will take weeks to line up shipping .

By lunch today every station in town but one was sold out, and he only had 1200 gallons of premium left.

Gas dropped 2-4 cents here today also, got reg @ 1.97. Filled the car , it was still 1/2 and will fill the little pickup in the morning but it is 1/2 at least. Have to put oil in the tank at the house but I use 2 infared heaters and even with the increased electric it is cheaper than the oil based furnace heat in the winter. It's an old house and I rent, but it's very reasonable and made more sense than buying when things were so high; very convenient for work but if I retire then I will be looking at other options.

We pay $2.45/gallon here. They say it's b/c Las Vegas/California have a high demand so we pay more b/c of supply and demand. It sucks.

It is because of the refining and pipelines in your PADD the Rockies virtually seperate you from the rest of the country.
80% of the countries refining is located on the Gulf Coast

Interesting. I didn't know that we have one source for gasoline. No wonder we pay so much.

You have limited refining and infrastructure west of the Rockies compared with the rest of the country.

I paid 2.29 in oklahoma city last night and it is 1.77 right now here in Tulsa. Too bad I couldn't make it here. It is always pretty cheap around tulsa. Even less on Indian land usually.
