Help Support CattleToday:

I'd guess the wind is gusting around 50 mph here in the Tulsa area, and sleet or freezing rain is audibly hitting the ground. The cattle already have very good winter coats.

Herfs are among the best cold-hardy breeds IMO, based on reports from the old-timers and what I have observed personally as well.

TB-Herefords I had -22 at 7:30am today (12/14) without the wind here in Dillon. Much nicer day today with just the slight breeze than last night but it's still a bit on the chilly side. At least some of the snow is staying around, not that often that we have white pastures.

It was somewhere's around 5 degrees late this morning. We prolly hit a low of about 0 F today. It was fun cleaning out barns in that weather. Hydraulics worked OK though. Cows and calves were plenty cool. Says -2 as I type this.

That's just too cold for me. Our low today is in the mid 50's and it's predicted to be up over 70 during the day all week. Love the south! :tiphat:

As the sun rises here on the Milk River- the temp stands right at -30 with a wind chill of -46...Going to have another cup of coffee before I fire up the feed truck...

Well I almost drank a pot before I got going...My ignition was frozen and the key wouldn't turn- so I had to heat it up with Grandma's hair blower before I could get the old truck to start- then let it run 1/2 an hour (while drinking coffee) so I could get things to moving...
It was pretty nice for awhile as the wind went down this morning and the temp is up to a balmy -18...But it is picking up again, making for quite a windchill and the old cows are heading for the sheltered areas again....

Now seeing as how Americans have a choice to live where they want, why would anyone choose to live in that kind of weather?

how much does land cost per acre where you live?
