The calves do look tiny in the pic. (Adorable really!)Calves so far this year. Four of them if you can zoom in. Need to just sell the herd like what was suggested before and replace with better genetics. Seems like there was some dwarf gene or something in the bull. Perfect for heifers but calves are 40lbs at birth and sometimes the calves don't get to big.
Will this pair on bottom go out to range with the rest? She looks to have some age on her. There is 60 calves out there so I tried to go for group shots as much as possible. All of these calves are a result of the famous breeding program, out of sale yard by truck.
For some reason this group of juvenile delinquent like to gather on top of the irrigation ditch.

Others like to lay on the hay rather than let their mothers eat it.

This is a cow of B's that wintered out. A couple of weeks ago she moved into my driveway and took up squatter's rights. B didn't think she had a calf in her. I agreed. Yesterday morning she was between the road and the fence. Her new calf was between the fence and the main irrigation ditch. We got them back together and later out into my field.

It is a fairly safe bet here that the cows are bred to quality bulls. The backyard people with just a few cows are rare in this part of the world. People who make their living on cattle buy quality bulls. And that is the vast majority of of the people with cattle here.Dave - your calves look GREAT. I think location makes a huge difference on the quality of cattle going thru the sale ring. Or you have magic eyes and can "see" what's in there incubating. LOL LOL
It makes sense that quality/right type cows would/should have been bred to a quality bull. Buy junk and they were probably bred to junk.
Everyone with a calf will go out tomorrow. The dozen or so who haven't calves yet will get to hang around here until they are done calving then they will join the others. She looks a little rough. That is because wintered out and got by with whatever she found to eat. Will this pair on bottom go out to range with the rest? She looks to have some age on her.
You have quite the mix of colors in the calves, I like it.
I like these cows! What kind of bull is the sire?A couple of bull calves born this week.
I run a black Simmi on them. I have a variety of F1 Brahma cross cows (braford, brangus, and Simbrah)I like these cows! What kind of bull is the sire?
I sorta figured that was what you were using, looking at those calf pics! One of my favorite to use on 1/2 Brahma crosses. Looks like he is doing a jam-up job for you, too.I run a black Simmi on them. I have a variety of F1 Brahma cross cows (braford, brangus, and Simbrah)
