You got 2 of the nicest young Simm bulls I have seen all year. If I was hunting a Simm bull, @simme would be where I'd go, too.Update and another short trip. As usual i ended up in the hospital for a while but with the help of clinchvalley86 and hogfarmer10 we made another short trip last week. Went to buy the 1/2 brother to my 600U bull, and Simme had 2, 1/2 brothers so i brought both of them home. They are 9 and 10 months old and have a good frame.
After riding 252 miles i had to slap them on the butt to get them to unload off the trailer. Very satisfied with how gentle they are. They are 1/2 brothers from Mr Sr Mic Drop G1534. I think the bull Jeannie showed in Louisville last fall is their 1/2 brother.
One is a calving ease bull with BW .04 and CE 12.1.
The 600U half brother is BW 1.5, CE 11.5, WW 89.7, and YW 142.4.
Both homozygous polled and homozygous black.
I sure am hoping for a red one next year from one of two very nice cows he's got.You got 2 of the nicest young Simm bulls I have seen all year. If I was hunting a Simm bull, @simme would be where I'd go, too.
I liked the heifers even more than the bulls.I sure am hoping for a red one next year from one of two very nice cows he's got.
He's got a helluva little heifer collection going.
Ok, are they related? My bull last year was an OMF Epic. I haven't tried Mic Drop.
Got ya@kenny thomas Mic Drop (sire of the 2 bull calves) is a son of MR SR 71 RIGHT NOW E1538. I think that "Right Now" is a bull that Jeanne has used in her herd.
Don't be a stranger!Decided to check in. Sure good to see some of the oldtimers still active here. Hope ya'll have a great day.
Same sire as the 22 and 23 calves Kenny bought?Kenny purchased both the 2022 and 2023 bull calves from my number 45 cow. She is a good milker and puts some growth in her calves. Here is her new 2024 calf, also a bull. She has had 5 calves, 4 bulls and one heifer. I have the daughter and a granddaughter in the herd. I so much wanted this one to be a heifer, but you get what you get.
Got to select a sire for the next mating and will hope for a heifer.
Been feeding hay since August. We have only had about 4" of rain since late May and 3.4" of that was in one week in July. And army worms as well. Not much left, except for hope for next year.

different sire every yearSame sire as the 22 and 23 caves Kenny bought?
Just curious.... is sexed semen available from the bull you want to use?different sire every year
I haven't picked a bull yet, so can't answer that. I have never used sexed semen, but has been reported to be about 90% accurate for sex, not 100%. Also lower % settled compared to conventional semen. Sorting is a mechanical process that will harm some of the sperm. So, it is not as ideal as we would like to think. The idea that you inseminate 10 cows with female sexed semen and get 10 heifer calves is a bit of a stretch.Just curious.... is sexed semen available from the bull you want to use?
