After a year long investigation, and a year's worth of being on paid suspension, the powers that be simply said "They violated departmental policyl".
"Discipline could be anywhere from extensive retraining up to termination," according to Beck. "All officers involved have been assigned to non-field duty since this event occurred."
The two women were out delivering morning newspapers when they were shot. Beck said one of the officers mistook the sound of a paper hitting the ground as a gunshot and opened fire, followed by other officers also firing their weapons.
"This was a tragic cascade of circumstance that led to an inaccurate conclusion by the officers," Beck said.
Gee--ya think? It took a year (till the public's attention faded?) to discover this? Way to go Beck--way to hold that Long Blue Line!!

And the Torrance police officer who shot at a different truck that same day? Not a damn thing will happen. No charges will be filed.

"Although mistaken," the district attorney's report said, "McGee honestly and reasonably believed that Dorner was driving the truck.......Last month, prosecutors found that the officer was "justified in using force to stop the vehicle and in discharging his firearm" and declined to press charges.

And now, Chief Beck has decided on their punishment. None. Nor will the 8 officers from LAPD lose their jobs.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eight Los Angeles police officers who mistakenly riddled a pickup truck with bullets during a manhunt for cop-turned-killer Christopher Dorner last year will be allowed to return to the field after they get additional training, Police Chief Charlie Beck said.

"I have confidence in their abilities as LAPD officers to continue to do their jobs in the same capacity they had been assigned," Beck said in a department message to officers obtained Wednesday night by The Associated Press. "In the end, we as an organization can learn from this incident and from the individuals involved."

Both the chief and an independent commission found the 2013 shooting that injured two women violated department policy. The seven officers and one sergeant could have faced penalties including being fired.
High 5s all around!! Morons abound!
Dispicable.

Screw the general population is what that means. I can't believe that it never crossed the officers mind's that maybe its not him. Without a description of the occupants in vehicle what are they thinking? This kind of thing is what's wrong with law enforcement, and the general public has no say.

Operations normal - police are untouchable and we are the targets - even when innocent of any wrong doing.

It was probably the same before the advent of social media and telephone cameras. However now there are examples and proof of what happens.

Thousands of examples on the internet and YouTube and other similar sights.

Nothing to see here folks - move along now.

I hear they got a new truck and a tidy payment.
Yes, but they had to fight for both and the settlement was with the caveat that the city admitted no wrongdoing. Last I read, altho the 2 sides came to agreement on the suit and the women awarded $3 million and $1.2 million respectfully, the city council has yet to approve payment of it.

The other guy in Torrance (shot at and his truck rammed) has not yet reached agreement with City of Torrance, and he has elected to go forward with trial, which is why the officer involved has been identified.

Over 100 shots fired by total morons at the wrong people--law abiding, innocent people---and no one goes to jail or loses pay or loses their job, much less has any charges filed against them. Jaywalkers and parking violations are higher up in the criminal food chain than these idiots are.
Where, do they find people this incredibly stupid? Do they have to take a test and the ones scoring lowest win and get hired?
Morons abound.

Brings up the idea that perhaps "Stand your ground" should include everyone.

If they were civilians out deer hunting and made the same "mistake" they'd have gone to jail, lost their weapons, possibly their vehicles and their hunting privileges for a few years.

LEOs illegally shooting at legal civilians and they get to keep their jobs and retirements.

I fear my government more than any foreign terrorists.
