We just purchased a cow and calf with the intention to butcher her then eventually the little her as she is no longer breedable.
The calf is a bit deformed at first she looked like she fell on her face but after further inspection she looks like she has a buffalo head with an off set jaw and the tip of her tongue stick out a bit. Her face is short with no neck. She eats fine and seems healthy otherwise. What is the best feed for her as we are getting ready to wean? I want it as natural as possible. No by products. She will have access to 4 acres but will need to be fed for her main feed the feild is not the best.
Second what is the best way to get the cow ready for butcher. She is in fairly good weight. 3 yrs old and a holstein/angus cross. She is not breedable as she had a very rough delivery as we were told- it was recommended by a vet to her previous owner to not breed her again. (reason we have her)
Do we have to dry her up before we take her in?
Will it effect the meat?
If so what is the best way to wean without mastitis?
She is milkable by hand if that will help.
