I bought a new headgate . Mounted it on my schute . My question is when you open the headgate part way it won't stay open unless the auto handle is used. Should the headgate stay partly open on its own ? Thanks rj

No, it may be able (sometimes) to get it to stay open if you don;t have the spring engaged.

If it is open all the way, what about if it's only partially open?

mine will stay wherever i leave it. not sure if thats right or wrong.

my priefert has a little handle on a flat piece of metal that flips up so you can lock it in three different positions

Thank for the replies. bse have you made a adjustment toget your hg to stay partially open . If so what adjustment was made . Thanks rj

i hadnt done any adjusting, i used it yesterday and really paid attention it will stay wherever from about half to full open anything less than half it will close. I dont oil it or anything it may be rustted up but it still works fine.

Only use WD40 on it - not reg oil.
