summer of 2011 in Alberta?? looks like you got alot done in one week :cowboy:

Yeah it was a bust week.

Thank you Isomade, Ohiosteve, LazyA, glad you enjoyed the pics.

This was the view yesterday.

A 9 year old commercial cow I have always disliked because of her type, but can't argue with her function, she just keeps raising big strong calves. So much for my type preferences. :cboy:

Ohio Steve, winter is on its way, so I draem of summer for another 7 months. :)

What a phenomenal display of photos and your summer! Amazing. Your cattle are quite something, including what I call 'knuckleheads' on our farm (the two going eye to eye). Truly wonderful pictures.

I would like to ask what kind of tree that is with the white fluffy stuff on it (seedpods?). Have never seen that before.

Thanks for a great show.

Gale, yes the white fluff are seeds of the poplar tree, Balsam Poplar, the female. A quote I found "Balsam poplar trees (Populus balsamifera), like aspen poplar trees (Populus tremuloides) a couple of weeks prior in the season, shed their seeds each summer. The female plants only, produce pods that split open and release minute seeds attached to long white hairs, or fluff. This fluff is dispersed by the wind and carries the seeds over large areas." This year with all our early rain the seedset was huge. I have never seen so much. At the peak when the wind would pick up it looked like it was snowing, heavily.
Glad you enjoyed the pics.

Dylan

Even your cowboys look better than mine. :D Thanks for sharing. Beautiful stock and country and cowgirls.
My project for the winter is to learn how to take pictures... My project for the following winter is to learn how to post said pictures... baby steps... Gimmee a while and we can compare notes.

Wow, thanks so much for posting those Dylan - please keep them coming, you're a very good photographer.
I do some painting and some of those would make wonderful subjects, if you didn't mind.

Thank you every one for your kind comments, glad you enjoy the pics as much as I do. :)

Knersie, we were told the gilts were Berkshire and the boars were Duroc. The cross produces a real variety of color.

  :tiphat: Wow! Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures. I love that fancy red cow/calf pair in the first series of pics.

Really like seeing the other parts of the world. Would be really cool to be able to visit some of the places an people on here if it could be done in a day. Next question is what are the hogs for? That's alot to butcher.

Those are some awesome photos. I love seeing other folks' livestock and the scenery. Those hogs look like what we used to raise. We uesd to cross em up like that. You get some pretty pigs out of that cross.
