A bull sale held at Emerald in Queensland was held last week.
12 breeds were offered with a 95% clearance to average $4,790.
Heres a breakdown of the sale.
42 Charolais,Charolais composites averaged $5,420.
9 Charbrays averaged $3,945.
15 Santa Gertrudis averaged $4,400.
15 Red Angus and composites averaged $3,835 top $6,000
4 Red Brangus averaged $5,750 top $7,500.
5 Gelbvieh and composites averaged $5,500 top $6,500.
2 Droughtmasters averaged $4,000.
2 Limousins averaged $5,250
12 Angus averaged $4,040. 7 Simmentals averaged $5,285
and 1 Romagnola sold for $5,000.
Sale topper was a Charolais for $14,000.
the low number of some of the breeds on offer isn't indicative of the popularity of these breeds in that part of the state,apart from the Angus.
Most of the breeds listed have their major breed sales coming up over the next few months. You might note that Brahmans or Brafords etc weren't listed,they have big numbered multi breed sales coming up.This sale is conducted each year at field day which producers,machinery dealers,yard manufacturers and anthing to do with the land display their products on site over 3 or 4 days. Similar exhibitions are held in other parts of Australia.
Most field days have a component of beef cattle on display. Sme of the closer ones to Metro areas generally promote more the hobby farmer type cattle such as Dexters,Lowlines etc.
