looking to be a cattle rancher .im a young man looking to learn about ranching from obtaining the land to buying cattle and is it a good way of life. please leave comments

I have found a little belly seems to help also , makes the overalls a bit more stylish. get you a truck and fill the back with various muddy things that most people would throw away. Don't forget to rub **** all over your lower legs and see if your lady thinks it's sexy , if so , you're good to go.

Any body can be a rancher if they have enough nickels.

To be a good rancher, you need much more.

If you are not good, you won't be a rancher long unless you own a casino or other revenue generating enterprises.

Marry into it but make sure the new father in law is at least 80 years old, a widower and the new bride is an only child. Doesn't matter what she looks like. It helps to have a few oil wells on the spread as well. :cowboy:

i would find a ranch to work on to see if to see how things are done & if you enjoy it. if you don't enjoy it you won't stand the low pay. farming used to be more fun years ago. this country has a gov. that believes in a low cost food program & believes it can buy all food overseas cheaper than paying it's own farmers enough to live decent. so the love of farm life is the only thing that will keep you into farming. there is no better way to raise a family & your kids will know how to work & manage money. good luck!

Yeah, that will work better than her supporting you and the ranch........ For some reason they become unamused quickly when you aren't paying your way and hers too.. :???: .

Spend some time learning how to market your product before you actually have a product. I've seen some of the best, most knowledgable cattle men and woman file bankruptcy because they were great at raising their product yet horrible at marketing it. Marketing is the key to success.

Learn how to pull a calf, and fix fence.
Learn how to grow grass and hay, and fix fence.
Learn how to be a mechanic, and fix fence.
Learn how to weld, and fix fence.
Learn how to be a book keeper, and fix fence.
Learn about bovine nutrition, and fix fence.
Learn how to build a corral, and fix fence.
Learn how to build a barn, and fix fence.
Learn how to work a full time job and still have time to.........fix fence.

Repeat if necessary. (which it will be again, next year)

If you have neighbors that know how to weld you can take the stuff over to their house and get them to weld it for you. My neighbors dont charge me.

I don't charge my neighbors to weld either, but next time you need something welded take some rods and a case of beer.I'm not saying you do this but it's starting to piss me off when I burn up a box of rods on somebodys junk and then don't see them till they want to use a trailer.

Yeah I do a lot of fencing here. Takes a lot more pasture area to raise a cow here than some of you are used to. Today I had to fix two spots of a new fence I put in last year, haven't had a cow in it yet. The antelope here just tear it to pieces. At least I don't have elk or moose to deal with.

First you need a big hat and a big belt buckle

You mean I am not supposed to wear suspenders?
You can wear suspenders but you have to have that BIG buckle hanging somewhere even if it doesn;t hold up your pants

I guess I am not in the club, cause I don't have one that looks like a Chevy Apache hubcap.
