Years ago when we were new to the area I remember someone saying that they had a separate mineral feeder that they put lime in. They said the consumption was low but if the cows needed it, it was there. Any other thoughts in this?

The last time I limed, I had it dumped out in a pile and I spread it my self in a rented lime spreader.
It was dumped in a pile where the cattle are at times during the rotations. I got to thinking about them getting into it and ODing on it because I was unable to get all of it up. But I don't think they touched it other than tromping over the area.

The two main minerals that cows will go chasing after are sodium and phosphorous. I think you will find that the mineral mix has calcium carbonate in it.
