johndeerefarmer,

Do you think the quality of John Deere tractors has gone down in recent years? I've never owned one, but I've had farmers that used to be diehard JD hands tell me that they don't see that much of a quality gap between JD and some of the other brands anymore. I've had some tell me that JD have slacked off some, and others tell me that it's just other tractors (mostly MF and NH) have gotten a lot better. Just curious what your opinion is?
my take on the j d tractors is that over the years a few old boys have written a few songs that include the j d and green.this may intice some who are unfamiliar with equipment to think green is better because a singer wrote it in a song.i have a mahindra.got all the tractor i need.also left me some in the bank for empliments and for hunting lease dues as well.

(IMHO)

You know, I wouldn't go with either...

I bought my new FarmTrac 275 about two years ago. 65 PTO HP, Perkins engine, platform, 12F/12R Syncroshuttle transmission, 3-Year Warranty. I only paid $18,000 (no loader).

I've been VERY happy with it. I've got about 140 hours on it I think.

GREAT tractor for the $$$

You may want to recheck that engine. It is NOT a Perkins motor. Might be a Deutz. Farmtrac is basically a India tractor with pieces being made in various places. They claim to have invested in manufacturing in the US but I can't find any unless they think selling them here is manufacturing.

Farmtrac is in bed with Italian industrial group SAME DEUTZ-FAHR, hence the similarity to the NH tractor.

My personal opinion is this tractor will get better and better and probably become as popular as the Kubota is now with folks who like these kinds of tractors.

4 years ago I bought a new Farmtrac 60 with a westerndorf loader. Paid 16500 for it, traded it in last year to used JD and they allowed 14500. Maybe they know something

What that they are better than a JD? ;-)

Dude, I know what I own...

My Farmtrac 275 tractor is made in India by "Escort", the same people who made about a gazillion Ford 3000 (and derivatives) over the last 35 years. It has a UK manufactured PERKINS engine as do all the Farmtrac Escort produced products.

The new Farmtrac "7-Series" (just out this Fall) is the product line in partnership with Same-Deutz Fahr. I haven't looked at those tractors enough to know what engine they have so you may be right with regard to that line of products.

The manufacturing facilities that Farmtrac is in the process of upgrading and expanding are located in Tarboro, NC. Farmtrac's predecessor was of course Long Manufacturing, which has been located in Tarboro since 1946.

I guess you got that Dude term from watching Broke Back Cowboy movies or something huh? Sounds kind of limp wristed. Please save the gay terms for your boyfriend.

I will be the first to admit I am not an expert on Farmtrash tractors. I can't even find a Farmtrash 275 listed anywhere. The 675 and 675DTC is the only advertised Framtrashes with Perkins engines. So I admit I was wrong, Framtrash does claim to have a Perkins manufactuered engine in one model. I did find an article stating Perkins was making some engines for Escort in the UK to their (Escort) spec's. So do you have an Escort line lawn tractor or a real Farmtrash?

Here's what you do. Look on the left side of the block and find the Perkins name forged into the block, take a picture and post it. At that point I will believe you have a Perkins motor in whatever tractor you have. Are you sure you don't have a 675? All the Farmtrashes I have seen have Mitsubishi engines although I understand they have some by names I can't pronounce also. I did learn today that the 675 has some Perkins plant manufactured engine in it.

Sorry, typo on my part. My tractor is the 675.....

Farmtrac sells tractors produced from three sources....

* The "Compact Line" comes from Korea, and is the same tractor also sold in the US under the "Montana" brand. Those have Mitusbishi engines.

* The "5" series and "6" series come from India and are produced by Escort. All five of those models (535/545/555/665/675) I believe have the Perkins engine, (although I noticed today that the Farmtrac websight only specifically says that my 675 has the Perkins).

* The new "7" series is the joint venture with Same-Deutz-Fahr. I haven't read anything yet that says what the power plant is in those tractors.

I'm a fan of Long/Farmtrac. My dad had a 445 model back in the 70's (then Long). My uncle had a 460 model for like 20 years until just recently. My sister has a Long 2360 that she has had for many years. I have my new Farmtrac 675. For the $$$, I think they are one of the best values on the market (especially the "Escort" produced models).

I haven't seen any "Brokeback Cowboy" movies. You seem to know more about that than I do...

Regards.
