Kubota M8540

Help Support CattleToday:

Hello,
I purchased an M8540 4wc HD-1 open station in December i now have 70 hours on it. I really wanted the hydraulic shuttle and it is nice but i still end up using the clutch a lot. I was previously using an old 1980's 2040 JD so just having any kind of shuttle is a major improvement. I looked at the New Holland T4020/30, John deere 5065M, and Massey 2600 HD. With a budget of $40k the Kubota was the only thing i could afford. I was originally looking for 60 70 hp and wanted to be able to lift a 3000 lb pallet off of a semi truck. The M7040 loader just could'nt handle it. The 7040 also has smaller tires offered I got the 18.4 x 30's Radials. I regret not getting the cast iron centers even though i have loaded tires I still need about 1000 lbs of counter weight if i'm picking up any thing really heavy with the loader. As several others have noted the kubota is built lighter than the competitors.

My friends with farms all said to get as big and heavy of tractor with as much tire as you can afford. I definitely agree

Other advantages of the M8540 over the 7040
almost 1000lbs loader and 3pt capacity.
increased hydraulic flow 6gpm
Hydraulic brakes don't require adjustment.
operator station is much nice all major controls are on the right side console

beware Kubota's FEL Ratings on the US site do not compare to most other you need to visit the canadian site for the same type of measurements. In reality the 7040 loader lifts much less when you start looking at the 800mm point versus bucket center.

Hope this helps happy tractor shopping

Thanks for the info, a Feb 2012 M8540 CAB 4WD FEL is on the way next week.

I hope you like your new kubota as much as i have mine.

Be prepared the 50 hour break in service is a bit pricey. 3 gallons of engine oil. a $15 oil filter. 2.5 gallons of Gear oil for the front axle. And the expensive part the 16 gallons of hydraulic oil and 2 $30 each trans filters Total material cost is about $500 I did use the kubota UDT 2 fluid

Yea I knew it would. We have a 6800 that had the same break in service. That oil and fluid sure did look to clean to change but I guess that just part of it

Let us know what you think after a couple weeks. I think you'll be pleased.

Sizmic

i need todo the complete service on my kubota as well.the cost for everything was $400.an it wouldve been $600 for the kubota dealer todo it.

If I'm not mistaken the kubota m 9540 I bought in 2010 was around 8500 pounds with the loader my new holland 5060 is over 15000 pounds . Believe me it makes a difference . I can pull a 20 foot jd disc my kubota would just spin the tires .
Are you running a lot of extra weights and fluid? NH's max permissable weight is slightly less than 15,000.

Depending on use I think you can be too heavy at times.
