We had an interesting weekend this weekend. Started Friday when we went out to sort cattle for AI. We had to put in two groups. Group one was virgin heifers and group 2 was cows some with calves at there side. We got them all sorted with no problems and ready for Saturday morning. At 8:00 we started running them through the squeeze shoot and inserting the CIDRs. A few where not to happy about it but that's par for the course. Over all everything went great. Saturday after we were done with the CIDRs is where the fun began. First we noticed a couple of the calves where mixed up in the wrong group. We were puzzled at what had happed. Anyway we got everyone in the correct groups and continued about our day. before we left we checked the groups one more time and you guessed it the calves were all mixed up again. could not figure out what the deal was until we saw on of the calve walk in between two strands of barbed wire into the adjoining pasture. So again we get every one in the right place and fix the fence so they could not get through. Just as we were driving out of the drive we spot a calf stuck in a fork in a tree. How she got there is anyone's guess. We had to lift her up and un-wedged her head. Momma was not happy about it but we were able to free the calf.

Sunday comes and we go back to the farm to check on things around 2:00 and find that the automatic waters are not working. It was 90 and sunny here on Sunday. We find that the water pump to our well is not working. We run into town and buy a new pump and fix the problem.

Being new to cattle one thing I have learned is that anything that can happen will happen. At least it keeps things interesting.

Oh and forgot to mention the fun we had trying to get our bull back in his pen. I guess he just wanted to get close to his girls and fresh grass. We got him in with a bucket of grain and put him in a new pen that was much more secure.

Pick of the heifer calf that was stuck :tiphat:

Glad it ended well. That was lucky you spotted the calf in the tree. If it woulda been over a hill out of sight you probably would have lost it unless mama bawled at it enough to get your attention or something. Not the usual thing anyone would normally check for - let's go check the cattle and see if any are stuck in forks of trees!
