Sun is sinking in the west
The cattle go down to the stream
The redwing settles in the nest
It's time for a cowboy to dream

Got a call last night from an old friends wife, said, I hate to bother you
But Johnny Ray fell off the wagon, he's been gone all afternoon
Come on, somebody has to know this one.

Purple light in the canyon
that is where I long to be
With my three good companions

Dean Martin sang that in a John Wayne movie, but I don't remember the name of the song or the movie. Ricky Nelson was in it, too.

A thousand miles away from home, sleeping in the rain
I walked up to a brakeman just to give him a line of talk
He said "If you got money, boy, I'll see that you don't walk

Waiting for a train by the GREAT Jimmy Rodgers. Some one lse did it later on but his version is the original and the best.

Sounds like life to me. Don't know the artist though because it's one of those I don't really like.

Darryl Worley?

I came out here to pick up my big brother,
He's been fighting the cancer they discovered.

 one of my favorites.

Now listen to the jingle, and the rumble, and the roar,
As she dashes thro' the woodland, and speeds along the shore,
See the mighty rushing engine, hear her merry bell ring out,
As they speed along in safety, on the "Great Rock-Island Route."
