Came into close quarters with a black bear yesterday when moving the cattle onto better grazing... was darn glad I wasn't on the ground. He sure wasn't in as good shape as the bear in your picture though. He was between four and six years of age judging by his height, but was only about two feet wide at the hips and had a very dull coat. Must have had something wrong with him, because this time of year given the great berries, greens and all the elk, moose and deer calves that they eat he should've been fat and sassy. Only thing worse would've been if there were cubs in the area. Doubt it'll survive the winter. Hope it doesn't find a sleepy little calf for lunch... would love to drop a few PETA people off to take care of him. Now that would beat satelite TV anyday for entertainment!
Take care.
