Did you ever steal anything as a kid?

Et tu Branguscowgirl?
Some old lady was short a few pennies in her cash register that night, got fired because of it, never could find another job because she was branded incompetent, and ended up having to survive by eating cat food for the next 20 years..... :cry2: :cry2:  ;-)

Ahhhhh! Dang you GB! :hide: :cry2: :cry2: :cry2:

I'm over it now...........The ole broad got fat on that cat food! :cowboy:

Yes

My experience was similar to Brangus's. Two friends and I decided to see who could steal the most sweets from a store. Well I popped a couple up my sleeve and managed to walk out without being noticed. We then compared our 'takings', can't remember who won but I felt so guilty that I walked back into the store and told the old man behind the counter all about it  .

Then a couple of years later, suppose at the age of about 10, I stole all the keys to our neighbors vehicles, trucks and tractors while they were at church...I was collecting keys, they fascinated me. Got the hiding of my life and was told to return them and apologise. That was the end of my thievery :D

When I was about 7-8 years old I went into an old country store where I lived...he had a table top covered with candy boxes...I stole a package of lifesavers, slipped them in my pocket and headed out the back door....was so nervous when I got outside I went over and stuck them down into the old man's wood pile and hauled a$$....thought I would have a heart attack...never went back to get them and wouldn't even go back into the old man's store for weeks.

I've heard a lot of those stories 3way. Grandpa got shot at once when he was young doing the same thing. Dad told me the other day about him and a melon patch, got a good laugh.

Stole a few golf balls when I was younger from random people's carts. Never got caught but knew dam well it wasn't right.

I got a little rock salt in my britches in a melon patch in either '69 or '70. It was my one and only attempt at liberating melons. I believe it was beer that caused the entire event. Beer to come up with the idea and plan. Beer to build up the courage. Beer that caused the noise that led to being discovered. And finally beer to ease the pain of rock salt in the rear. So I blame the entire event on beer.

We had people stealing melons all the time.. Cost of doing business Dad used to say. He would fire a gun in the air, and they'd haul out. He never aimed at anyone. My Dad is a good shot.

It use to be that people would empty the birdshot out of shotgun shells and replace it with rock salt. Because it weighed considerably less than lead it wouldn't have enough energy to penetrate. But it sure stung like mad when it hit you in the rear. Now days I am sure you would go to prison for shooting some kid in the rear with rock salt.

That was basically how you lettered in melon stealing. I was 9 when i got shot. It burned like he[[fire.

Given the current climate in society, it'd probably be a bad idea to shoot the neighbors children with rock salt.

I was raised poor white trash and was taught the lifestyle by older cousins and just went along with it but I knew it was wrong. I was raised by a single mother that worked 12 hour days to keep a roof over our heads. She wasn't around to control me and couldn't had she been there.
At 10 a Swiss army knife from the teachers desk
At 11 I was taught by an older cousin how to take cash from family and freinds purses
At 12 I was a shoplifting pro
At 13 breaking into cars and homes
At 14 I was breaking into businesses
At 15 I was stealing cars
At 15 I spent time in an very unpleasant youth facility with some boys that where very tough and would hurt you if given the chance. I thought I was a tough guy until I met some tough guys in the youth facility and learned I was not really that tough
I survived with a few scraps along the way and decided that was not the way I was going to spend my life. I never stole another thing and never gotten over the guilt
I have tried to make up for what I did as a kid and try to help anybody that's in need. I suppose it's an attempt to make up for what I've done and relieve the guilt
It haunts me to this day and still lowers my opinion of myself. No matter what I do in life in my mind I'm still trash.
It's my cross to bear

You are someone to be respected for turning your life around. You should be proud of yourself. Stop feeling guilty. You cannot dwell on the past. You changed for the better and that is the important thing. How much better our world would be if more people would do what you did and get their lives straight. Try to put the past behind you. I know it is difficult and we all find ourselves dwelling on it too much. Sounds like you made a very wise decision and got on the right road. Hold your head up and be thankful that you have become the person that you are. Keep helping others.

Since everyone is coming so clean, I guess I'll have to elaborate on my "yes" I said earlier

I have stolen significant items, but never from individuals... the one that stands out in my mind is my old employer, a corporate place that paid peanuts for warehousers and you'd get shafted any chance they had. I feel no guilt about what I stole from them. After I quit that hole, I worked for an excellent company and never stole from them, nor have I ever stolen from individuals.
I'm older and actually a little more mature now, and thankful for it

See, now don't you feel better? ;-) I was teasing the Catholics in another thread (something to do with their fondness of fish sticks), but maybe this confession thing has something to be said for it!

Nah, I just had to keep face and not look like a chicken shyt! I don't know the details and don't care to get into a pizzing match, but I'm probably no better than Hook
