I'm looking at purchasing one of the cattle software programs on the market. Any suggestions???
We have registered Angus & Gelbvieh cattle along with a commercial herd.
Something that can interface with both breed associations would be nice. It needs to be VERY easy to use, my dad is just now learning how to turn on a computer.

Thanks,

Hi Baylorcattleguy, We are using the cattle max software. we opted for the middle of the road as far as features and price. So far I haven't found anything it won't do, however unless you plan to spend quite a bit of time a the computer you may want to find a more simple program. We have had the program several years, and still haven't learned how everything works. My biggest complaint is that you have to follow every step through with each calf unless you group them (which I haven't figured out all the way just yet) for example: you put data in on a calf, now you have to go in and tell the day you brand, the day you wean, the day you sell and some inbetween I don't remember. Any how my suggestion is to call the company and get their trial CD. Best of luck and if you figure this one out let me know :D

I honestly can't say how easy this program is to use...but it's called MDI. Their website is http://www.magnumdigital.com. I got one of their brochures at our Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and haven't yet gotten a chance to try their trial. They've got a trial download on the site...the screenshots on the brochure seem like it's a pretty easy program to use, but you might want to download that trial and try it out for yourself.

I am using Ranch Manager. I find it to be pretty easy to use. They do have breed data with it, but since I am in the commercial side of things, I couldn't tell you too much about that. Anyways here is their link, and I would suggest getting the demo and seeing if you like it or not.

I have recently purchased CattleSmart Pro edition 7.0 from jacesoft.com. Make sure you get the newest 7.0 edition. The older version is cheaper.

I looked at CattleMax too. I think it is a better bigger program and has more capabilities- but for my small but growing operation I wanted easy. And CattleSmart Pro is simple to use. You can download a sample to try on the http://www.jacesoft.com site. CattleMax also has a sample you can try.

Good luck!
