Cat 305.5 turntable backlash

Is there an adjustment on the 305 machine that will remove some of the backlash between the ring and pinion gears. With the bucket extended about half the way out you can swing the house by hand and the bucket moves about 8-10" freely. Seems a little much but I can't find any specs on what is within limits.

Sounds excessive. Not sure on that machine if there's any adjustment. Start by locating the swing planatary and look at the pinion gear while somebody else pushes the bucket back and forth. See if the play is ring to pinion problem or if it is coming from inside the swing planatary gearbox.

Different deal but I once had a 70s something Case 480 backhoe like that. I learned to stop swing well before the boom & bucket reached where I wanted it because I knew inertia was going to carry it about a foot farther after I released the swing pedal. I got to where I could run it fine but wife or anyone else would get on it and hit everything around 'em. Worn pins and holes..
